My wife tried #60. Tofu Xào Xả Ớt Tofu stir fry with mixed vegetables and spicy lemongrass homemade sauce, chili oil. Served with a side of white rice - and enjoyed the flavor quite a bit and says it was her first time having Vietnamese food. I had the Tofu Pho however I did "cheat" and have it with beef based broth, which I found to be delicious. (They have a vegetarian option as well, but I wasn't surprised when the man that took our order, when asked, said he preferred the beef broth so I went with it.) We're not Vegan or Vegetarian - preferring to say we're Flexitarian and simply avoid meat products when able to do so and have vastly improved our diets. I think they had a very good selection of healthy food choices, and everything tasted fresh. Portions were good as well. Our son had chicken fried rice with a side of tofu, and enjoyed the tofu more LOL While I didn't mind getting our own water (never had to wait for a refill!) I do enjoy being able to have an alcoholic beverage with my meal. (I don't enjoy "bubble teas" or iced teas and coffees in general.) I deducted one star simply for lack of drink options, as well as the spartan, but clean interior. My wife did not think the unisex restroom was clean enough, however it was late in the evening and they seem to run with minimum staff. She also was less than thrilled with how the silverware and chopsticks were kept in the open on the tables, thinking it was time for the holders to be deep cleaned by appearances. Food however was VERY good, and now my wife wants to try more Vietnamese restaurants in addition to the Japanese and Chinese food we already enjoy. Thank you for a good...
Read moreI have visited this place quite a few times and the experience is always great. Service is superb and foods are always delicious and fresh. The Bun Bo Hue (Spicy lemongrass beef noodle soup) is perhaps one of the best in Buffalo that I’ve tasted so far. Don’t get deceived by the bowls/dishes because they’re sure big potions. The crispy pork here is another highlight that you should try. The skin is very crispy and they have a good ratio between meat and fat, not just a slab of fat like you would find at the other Chinese places. The inside vibe is also very different from the look outside. It’s clean, bright, and modern. Before this store, I’ve known Anchi through their dessert expertise with all kinds of snacks and bakeries that you can’t easily get in the Buffalo area. They have a website that offers delivery as well, and you can also book your themed birthday/party fruit cakes that are light and healthy. If you’re Vietnamese, then you would probably know the salted egg sponge cake, pork floss bread roll, and the garlic cheese bread that have been the Asian snack hype for the past few years (although the pork floss roll is more of a childhood delicacy). I’m happy that they now have a nearby store so I can visit whenever I want now. This will definitely be a regular place for me...
Read moreNestled on the outskirts of UB North Campus is an unassuming plaza that holds a hidden gem. That's gem is Anchi a La Carte. My wife's and my first experience with this business was on our anniversary and we were looking to find a delicious Vietnamese restaurant. And 1 bowl of pho, and vermicelli noodles later, we found ourselves more than satisfied. The food is always fresh and hot, the staff is always extremely pleasant and timely, and the atmosphere is always welcoming in such a way you never think about the close quarters you sometimes find yourself when dining in.
Be sure to try any of the vermicelli bowls, you can't go wrong, and for those with big appetites, the Anchi Special Vermicelli bowl should be your go to with the extra meats and egg roll it's served with, it's more than worth the slightly higher cost. The egg rolls are delicious too, with a crisp outer coating and the soft inside of pork, taro, and carrot. Though I'm confident you won't go wrong with any item on the menu.
The moral of this review is run, don't walk, to Anchi a La Carte today for some of the most delicious Vietnamese...
