When my family first arrived Everyone was friendly. The Manager was there so we explained to him that our house was being renovated so we would need to stay for about a month, he was cool with that gave us our keys and went about our ways. Check in our rooms were satisfied. As the weeks progressed things started to get a little strange. My family and I would come up to the front desk to pay on our rooms weekly but for some sort of reason, front desk would call the phones in the rooms and tell us,"You have to pay? So once we arrived to the front desk we would tell them why call when you know that we pay every week like clock work? ( unprofessional in my book) and that continued the whole entire time we stayed! So the last week that we stayed I found out through a housekeeper that the "Manger" was sending his staff into our rooms to see if we smoked weed?? The housekeeper told me that they had targetted us from the first day that we got their..I was livetd when she told me. So on June 16, 2019 my husband had just gotten off of work at 5:30@ and while he was winding down at around 9am I was getting ready to go to Church. So I got myself ready and left to go to Church. Now while I'm at Church between 10am-12pm..my husband calls me I answered and he tells me that while I was gone someone knocked on the door, he yells at the door because the 'Do not Disturb sign " was on the door and it has been on there the whole stay..so they proceeded to knock louder my husband gets up to answer it because by now he is pissed. He opens the door and it's the HSKP Supervisor named "KiKi"(ghetto trash) and the Manager (JAY) and they accused my husband of smoking weed..so my husband quickly defends himself from the accusations and tells the both of them "Do you smell Weed" So Jay the Manger says you would have to leave..my husband tells him I'm not going nowhere and slams the door in both of their faces and lays back down. Once I arrive back from Church I couldn't believe this unprofessionalism that just took place !! I put my stuff down to go look for the both of them "Jay and KiKi" to address these accusations and they were no where to be found!!! So I told my Husband I guarantee when it is time to pay tomorrow they will refuse it. Sure nuff Monday they refused it wouldn't compromise at all. So I was at work which I am a EVS Supervisor at a well known establishment and I would never!!Treat a customer in this manner!! Jay and his "Ghetto Staff" are not welcoming, they walk around with their pants hanging off of their behinds. The Supervisor walks around with her belly hanging out of her shirt, she doesn't greet guests and she always has an attitude. Jay also will go into your cars that are on file and swipe them for extra money. My son is disputing an unauthorized transaction from Jay that he had no permission to do. The same type of people that was at the Motel 6 are the same people who check in and out at the New Red Roof Inn1. Jay allows his family to come and stay for weekends out and they will have guests up all night long with the slamming of doors, running through the hallways all hours of the night!! Doors are always slamming morning, noon, and night it is ridiculous!!He treats his guests and staff so unfairly and speaks to them like trash. No respect or mannerism whatsoever!!I told Jay the his EVS Supervisor should give us an apology he said Oh I'm so sorry I told him No I want one from her! If we were smoking weed why weren't the police called on us, it's because like the housekeeper said they targeted us from day one. Also there was a drug bust when we were there from a young man who was selling drugs up on the 2nd floor of the building. There needs to be new management who are very productive and professional about the needs and wants of the public. It doesn't matter the location of what has happened in the past, the New Manger should have High expectations of that property...
Read moreWe went to Rochester for eclipse viewing; Red Roof Inn / Airport had a decent rate for the event. The location is very convenient to the airport - less than a minute drive, and within a 5-minute drive of several shopping centers with restaurants, clothes, banking, Starbucks, Wegmans. It's not easily walkable, and the remote area is near rail yards and industrial sites. Traffic is rarely heavy in the area, reaching downtown was about 10-15 minutes.
From the exterior, the motel looks clean and decent. It's a mixed bag inside. First impressions - the staff is friendly and tries to be very helpful - especially Anuraj at reception. The hotel is understaffed, and this shows by the lapse in cleanliness in halls and how busy the single person at reception is. For a number of people, the hotel seems to be home. I did not see anyone who was overtly frightening, threatening or criminal as some reviews implied. The presence of people who live in a motel, have lesser financial means and who are Black or Latinx is not cause for concern or disparagement.
There is on-site laundry room, several vending machines, a good stock of brochures, and flyers in lobby about area attractions, and plentiful parking. It's a two-story building; I'm not sure if there's an elevator. There was also a coffee machine in the reception area, which is a tiny space.
That being said, some factors of having people resident in hotel means trash is left in the hall outside room doors for collection. This is unsightly, maybe unsanitary and is not visually appealing. I suggest hotel set up a refuse area in parking lot shielded from view for the residents. The corridor carpets need to be deep cleaned, or replaced as the smell of smoke is strong (there are smoking and nonsmoking rooms). Many residents leave their room doors open to interact socially and you may see/hear children playing in the public corridors. Our room - 235 - smelled strongly of smoke. We'd wanted a nonsmoking room and the hotel was full. The bathroom door didn't close completely nor lock; the lock / latch needs to be replaced. The deep red color of the wall, popcorn ceiling is dated, but there have been some upgrades - the room was clean, the headboard, light fixtures looked new. The wood laminate floors were also very new and clean. There were no hangers on the bar for clothing, an easy fix. We had bare minimum of towels; there are no toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc) - bring your own for now. There is a refrigerator which was clean, and microwave, though we didn't use. Plentiful outlets near bed and there was a small-mounted television. There were no bed bugs, roaches nor any other pests; aside from the smoke, room was pretty clean. I suggest airing out all unoccupied rooms, and hotel going smoke-free.
With a little care re: items above, some shade trees planted outside, Red Roof Inn can be much better. I actually wouldn't mind staying again in a nonsmoking room, especially if proximity to airport is needed or on a budget. Thanks for the efforts made and for being helpful (and apologetic) regarding our stay,...
Read moreFirst I'd like to say that upon checking in and out the hotel staff were very friendly. Now that that's out of the way... the lobby has a sign that states that verbal or physical abuse of the staff will not be tolerated. That should have been our first clue to leave. The lobby stunk of cigarette smoke, despite the "no smoking" signs hanging up. The hallway smells very strongly of pot smoke. Not like, maybe someone had smoked there, but like someone had actively been smoking pot in the hallway prior to our arrival. In the room the floor was both sticky and also slippery. I'm not sure what was on the floor, but I kept my shoes on. There wasn't a blanket on the bed. There was a sheet and then a very thin material that seemed like it might have been a curtain covering the bed. There was hardly any toilet paper on the roll with no back up. The air conditioner didn't get the room cold (which I guess is why there was no need for a blanket.) The property was non smoking, remember the sign from the lobby, yet our room had an ash tray in it and the smoke detector had been removed and shoved in a drawer. Lastly, my favorite part of the trip was the paper thin walls. We heard everything in the hallway from regular conversations to shouts and yells. At 5am we were woken up by our neighbors have incredibly loud sex in the room next to us. It continued on and off for 3 hours (which, honestly? good for them) which made sleeping very difficult. This wasn't our first bad experience with a Red Roof Inn, but it is our last. We will never stay at another Red...
