I only booked this place because of their "Eco" status due to the fact that I was driving a rental EV that I needed to charge overnight & they had 4 chargers in front of the property that I found listed on a app showing where chargers are located. I checked in - the front desk person was pleasant and we joked about me driving what felt like a giant cell phone that needed charging. She said go charge it ie the chargers worked - at check in. I went to charge the car and found none of them worked. I called the company that owned the chargers and my understanding of what I was told is that the "partner" ie the motel, had not communicated effectively to date in order to turn them on and she could not turn them on without that communication. I went back to the front desk who tried to call the owner in order to communicate with the charging company to find a solution and she was ignored by the owner with no call back. The front desk did find me another neighbor motel that would let me charge for an hour which wasn't enough juice to get me far. I ended up finding another establishment on my own that would let me charge for longer after I begged. Bottom line - not so "Eco" if you have 4 non working EV chargers which are like a green prop if they are not working. Owner didn't give a damn as evidenced by not calling back. Unless the owner was unable due to illness to call back - then is there a back up person to sort out problems? I was not going to call this owner myself because I already read about his unhelpful traits in other reviews, had made myself clear to the front desk of my needs, had already spent time speaking to the charging company including the supervisor who even called me back to follow up, and needed to spend my time finding a working charger. Other than that: I was annoyed by the resort fee to use the "free" sports equipment that I wasn't going to use and annoyed that my time spent was walking around looking for a charger because this place is not close to town. Room was mediocre - nothing special - with very paper thin walls. Overpriced. Yes I see my problem could be my own fault for not calling them first to see if the chargers worked. But if you are "Eco" then your chargers should work? It was like a green fake out that created a lot of stress for me. My stay was ruined by the stress of this situation. I would have left immediately if they would have given me my money back but I knew better from seeing their no refund ever policy. If I wasn't driving a rental EV and hadn't needed a charger my stay would have been different and this review would have been different - but it's not. One plus - the water pressure was so high it nearly blew me out of the...

I would like to let anyone reading this know this lovely hotel is owned & managed by a very caring, attentive staff. My husband and I decided we were off to the Lake Placid area for our anniversary to enjoy a beautiful scenic and relaxing long weekend... we were welcomed by a lovely host who showed us to our room and also gave us a complimentary bottle wine for our anniversary, right outside our door was a lovely view of Saranac Lake, which we were literally on top of ... simply gorgeous! This hotel offers free of charge canoe, kayak, paddle boats or bicycles free of charge to its guests. They are always walking the grounds and talking to the guests to make sure that everyone is taken care of and also to make sure that everyone is comfortable and most importantly safe, my husband and I happen to have gone out on the weekend that they were having their annual rugby event, which apparently can get a little overwhelming with the younger crowd wanting to party, my husband and myself and other guest witnessed nine rugby players which looked to be both male and female attempting to all sneak into one room, well needless to say the manager / owners were all over it already as they have cameras placed all around the hotel and inn for everyone’s safety ......out they went! It’s nice to know that these business owners aren’t about the money they are about the well-being and comfort of their guests. The rooms are very clean, anything you need from extra soap, shampoo, towels so on so forth they will gladly supply you with, they definitely go above and beyond to make your stay an enjoyable one ....Thank you to all the staff at Gauthier’s we are looking forward to coming back next year .... I forgot to mention on the second night of our stay they gave us yet another bottle of wine with beautiful wine glasses..maybe they liked us a little? Whatever the case the feeling was mutual thanks again & we highly recommend this...

I’m writing this review in response to the owner's response to the review posted on 7/4. I was the other person at that party. Firstly, the Expedia posting DID say balcony or patio. What they put us in was a converted garage. Stains on the chairs, dirty bathroom, no rugs or carpet, bland and run down. Secondly, we spoke to the staff in so much respect. They immediately changed their persona when we expressed that we weren’t satisfied. The front desk women immediately got snippy and irritable. Thirdly, we did go to dinner. During that time, we could speak to the person who booked us the room about the situation. We were not drunk. We didn’t even drink. That’s when we came back to speak further. Again we said respectfully until the FD women got snippy again and made us feel stupid. We finally were able to talk to the owner, and he was very nasty. He didn’t listen, made us feel stupid, and was disrespectful. We left the hotel.||My partner and I are very easy to please. We would have been happy with just a little bit of empathy and a genuine apology, and a small discount for the disappointment.EXPEDIA did refund our money. They have had enough complaints against this guy to know we aren’t the crazy ones. It’s very rude to call my partner a Karen. He isn’t. ||||||If you take anything away from what I say, I’d like you to accept this. I’ve worked in 5-star luxury hotels for years. When helping guests when problems arise, I use this model. ||||HEART...

Booked a same-day room for a spontaneous getaway for my son's 18th birthday. Spent half a week's pay on a "lakeview" room I thought would be a treat. We were assigned what reviews call the "garage room" underneath the owners residence. While it was a large room with large windows facing the bay it was damp with no A/C running and mis-matched decor. It didn't have any toilet paper and no functional exterior lighting. As our entry door was in the basement between two large trees it was disconcerting. (The pictures are the outside of our room . . . and the beginning of every Unsolved Mysteries episode. One with the door closed, one with it ajar and one in the morning.) The pro's were the nice young man who expedited our late night check-in and the free access to a canoe for an early morning paddle on the lake. While I feel I personally overspent on the room for less than a 12-hour visit I think Gauthier's offers a lot of amenities for families with younger children as there is a pool, tennis court, basketball half-courts, fishing access, etc. As long as you don't arrive expecting lakeside luxury and are willing to find some humor in their quaint quirkiness, it is worth your consideration.

Stay away at all costs. The rooms are not advertised correctly. Booked a “ deluxe” double room with a lakeside view & balcony. Was given a dirty converted garage room with a partial lake view. We kindly approached the front desk asking for another accommodation. We were understanding and very respectful. The front desk immediately became defensive and called the owner. Regretfully, the owner said he’d switch our rooms to a normal room (not in the garage) for an additional $130. We asked to speak to the owner for a refund as our expectations were not meant. We did not pay $250 a night for a garage room with dirty stained furniture with a broken AC. Additionally the amenities were in rough shape. Moldy and worn. The owner is a complete nasty man. We asked to speak to him. He got completely nasty. I called him out for being disrespectful. He said, “I’m the owner and could I disrespectful as I want”. What he’ll say is we’re disrespectful, but after speaking to the city’s chamber of Commerce this hotel’s owner and wife are known by the city for their horrible hospitality and price gouging. He’s a gas lighter and liar. Be very much aware. Protect your assets. And don’t engage with this business.
