(It's been quite some time since I've stayed in any hotel.)
My husband and I were going to be in the Shoals area for 4 nights. We wanted something inexpensive, yet clean. I was happy when I found the Microtel, because it's so new. I was worried, though, about the lack of pictures from actual guests because there is almost NO WAY that a room would look as nice as the pictures the hotel provides. (I was proved wrong.)
We arrived a few minutes before check in time to an almost empty parking lot. When we checked in, the reception area was quiet and it felt weird for a moment. (We wondered just how new this place was, Google street view doesn't even show its existence!) The woman who greeted us was very friendly and gave us a "welcome bag" which contained 2 water bottles, 4 peppermints, and a bag of popcorn. :D
Our room was just big enough for 2 people, though had we packed for more than 4 nights, our things may not have fit the closet and 2 drawers. The bed was clean and very, very comfortable. There was a mystery stain on the window seat as well as the nearby carpet area. The hotel seems to be popular with groups visiting the area for kids sports events or youth activities as noted from past reviews and the groups that did arrive later in the day. (Some teens running the halls, though thankfully that was quickly stopped.) Curtains were blackout, which were appreciated greatly when we hit the sack the first night at about 7pm after a 14 hour drive.
Breakfast included: DIY waffles, 3 kinds of cereals w/milk, scrambled eggs, sausages, DIY biscuits w/gravy, DIY grits, 2 kinds of muffins, 2 kinds of Danish pastries, bagels w/cream cheese packs, whole wheat and white bread for DIY toast, coffee, orange juice, apple juice, and DIY tea. Weekdays 6-10, Weekends 7-10 or 11. It was good, but if there are big groups at the hotel make sure you come by 9 or the stock will be low (the ladies who worked there tried their best to keep the food replenished).
NOW, with all that said, our stay was peaceful, enjoyable, and hassle-free, mostly. Between my husband and I, we had only 2 complaints. 1) The showerhead/water pressure isn't adjustable and hurt like hell when hitting sensitive skin. 2) More than once, we received towels (either hand or body) that were not fully clean. I know the hotel is "green" but I really hope they are washing their towels w/hot water. :/
Only other things I heard was on a rainy day a businessman needed the free Internet that is supposed to be available throughout the hotel and it wasn't working, with the receptionist apologizing that the rain knocks out the Internet. That same day, we discovered the hotel has Direct tv because once the rain picked up the tv reception went out. (Not really a big loss, but the Internet for business...
Read moreI have had the pleasure of staying in quite a few hotel/motels recently. This Microtel Inn is FANTASTIC!!! There are a lot of places that are well rated but once you check in you wish you could check out QUICKLY. You are greeted by a friendly and cheerful staff that is ALWAYS very helpful. The rooms very nice and you can see that not only has the property been well maintained but all of the rooms and furniture has been well maintained. The service staff does a really great job cleaning each room. You can see that the staff takes pride in their work and it shows in the quality of your room. Our room was very nice and clean. You can smell the clean in the air 😊 There is ALWAYS a fresh pot of coffee in the breakfast area and you can also make a variety of hot teas. There is also peanut butter and jelly available right next to the coffee and tea nook. Great for a late night snack especially if you happen to get some extra bread at breakfast in the morning. Breakfast options were good and everything was fresh. The staff always greets you when you return back night and it feels very homey and comfortable 😊Our stay was very nice and I would HIGHLY recommend staying AT...
Read moreMy two year old and husband stayed here for the first time. Before we laid our son down we wanted to make sure the sheets were clean. They weren’t in room 209. There were crumbs and a gross stain that was on top of the sheet and not embedded in it. (I felt it 😩 to check) obviously wasn’t going to sleep there or put my baby. So we asked for a different room. We went to another 200 room with tha front desk clerk and we pulled the sheets back together. Again, it looked like someone had been in it and there were dirt/crumbs all over. By now it’s 12:30 am and we were moved to an additional room where it was clean.
We asked for sheets and pillow for couch bed. We were told there would be some in the room. There wasn’t so we asked for them to bring some. The clerk said to come get them which is when my husband became annoyed because -where’s the customer service?!- Finally got settled but our room is hot and the AC doesn’t seem to be working properly but it’s 1 am and we aren’t going to move our sleeping baby to a fourth room.
We’ll be speaking to the front desk clerk about a type of refund for our overall stay of one night. We won’t...
