The gentleman at the front desk when we first arrived to see if they had available rooms was pretty rude he refused to let us look at a room to see if it would fit our needs. He was actually so rude and unwelcoming that I wanted to go get a hotel somewhere else but we were on our motorcycles and it was pouring rain and we were tired so we decided to stay we asked him if we could put our motorcycles out of the way under the canopy where hotels all over the United States let motorcyclist do, he refused that also!! The lady who came to work after he left though made up for it all she was sweet, polite, and kind I truly wish she was the one that greeted us when we got here because that guy needs to learn some customer service skills he has absolutely none he made us feel like we were not worthy for this hotel! I would’ve absolutely given this hotel five stars if it was not for that guy!! Also the cook in the morning, she was awesome, she offered to cook me eggs or remake anything else it was just a really great experience! And of course the older lady at the front desk late at night! And the rooms were so clean and beautiful kudos to the housekeeping!!! That front desk guy with the tattoos all over his arms needs to go to customer service skills training, in a bad way! But other than him this was a beautiful hotel and the other workers were really nice the elder lady at night saw that our bikes were out in the rain and even asked if we wanted to pull them under the canopy we were like what!? the other guy...
Read moreTotem Hotel is top notch lodging in Valdez as the newest hotel in town Cleanliness: Everything had been cleaned upon arrival. A few streaks on the mirror, but not a big deal. Comfort: The beds were very comfortable, but the pillows were not very supportive. The towels were the worst thing about the stay as they had a rough texture and were cheaply made. The tubs are deep and good to take a bath in if that's your thing. Breakfast: lots of options, very filling, and vegetarian friendly. Buffet style offering hot eggs, breakfast meats, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, potatoes. Grab and go fruit, muffins and bagels. Also instant oatmeal, toast, yogurt, juice, coffee, and tea. Noise: The hallways doors are clanky and you can hear them in your room if other people are out there. Most noticeable if you have a room by the stairwell door. Staff: Standard service, nothing awful or amazing to report. Location: Everything is close in Valdez, including this hotel...lol. Value: OK value for the money. The more expensive lodging option in town, but it offers a well-kept comfortable stay. Other: there is a nice fitness room and small pool with warmish water. I really wish they had a hot tub instead of a pool given the cooler...
Read moreThe Totem hotel is a modern boxy multistory hotel about two blocks from the waterfront- so easy walking to multiple restaurants and activities. Keys were available to everyone on the tour, except us, when we arrived. That situation was eventually resolved. The large attractive lobby had the front desk. seating, gift shop and a breakfast area. The house has a small pool, unlike everywhere else we stay during our tour. Our eventual room was large with a double queen and medium sized bathroom. Everything was clean and operational. The decor was monochrome, with contemporary furnishings, no art, a refer, microwave, no safe, and acceptable in-room coffee ( three in a row). Very good printed guest information. The complementary internet worked well. The medium sized flatscreen tv had lots of channels and a useful guide. Good bed, linens and pillows. Good towels and toiletries. Good lighting and lots of outlets. The complementary breakfast does not start serving until 6:00 am, stacking up multiple tours creating substantial lines. The breakfast was average quality and variety, at best. An average 3 star house, in value and delivery- ok...
