The Potato — Restaurant in Valdez

Great restaurant, great staff... but I do not recommend the hummus wrap... The hummus wrap was one of my favorites in the past, with delicious hummus, feta, cucumber, olives, etc. I ordered it today and it was a pickled onion wrap, with runny hummus, a bit of soggy feta, lettuce and tomatoes. It was absolutely disgusting and a waste of my money. I called the restaurant to make sure the onions were not rancid (so they could take them off their line), but she said they are using a different pickling process and that is why it tastes different. This wrap, in the past, had classic Mediterranean ingredients, I think they are attempting some type of fusion, that just isn’t working. (If the Potato Head reads this, perhaps you can stop loading the wrap with pickled onions and add a few olives, if you need vintager, maybe use balsamic). I still highly recommend this restaurant. Just stay way from this item, and you will have a first rate experience with...

Ordered the smoked salmon chowder ($13), basket of “curly” fries ($7) and the Bonanza Burger w/ side of fries ($21). The chowder: super thick, too much going on, strong dill, cream and clam flavor, can barely taste the salmon. Still edible to me, but husband it was “horrible”. Came with some toasted white bread, no flavour but something to use to dip (if it was sourdough I couldn’t tell)

Fries: decent, mostly bits and pieces, maybe 1 curly to every 20 pieces. Nothing to write home about.

The burger: I didn’t taste it. Husband says worst burger he’s ever had, dense and tastes like processed meat, he swears it had, like, hot dog ground up in it.

Customer service was friendly.

Wouldn’t recommend based on the dishes I had. Won’t be back to try...

Woman at the counter told me I am not a microwave .....when I asked after 15 minutes how much longer my burrito would take .....best place to order a coffee ....no questions asked they just put coffee in a cup and hand it to you lol.....black and that's it if u ask they just point ......fix it yourself....she might not be a microwave but she is a miserable person....it was so rude that when I walked away I actually started laughing....only is alaska where you can get no employees would you keep your job with that blatantly rude service ....of note the original version of this place is in McCarthy and is really good menu is similar...
