My stay was okay, it was the unpleasant aftermath that took place...
Be wary of the Vernal Antlers Inn. I went online to review credit card charges after a recent trip to discover a $99.00 posting to my credit card by Antlers Inn. I recognized this posting to be incorrect as I was not in Utah on the transaction date but some seven hundred miles away. Curiously, I had stayed at the Antlers Inn in 2018 and one-year to the day the new charge appears. Hmmmmm....
I contacted Chase Bank and was informed that as the charge was “pending” that they could not take action until the charge was actually debited to my credit card. Forty-eight hours later the $99.00 amount was actually debited. I again contacted Chase to dispute the charge. The Chase representative placed me on hold and contacted Antlers Inn. After a few minutes the Chase representative came back on the line and had me speak with a female individual at Antlers Inn. The woman claimed that she was unable to explain the charge as it occurred when she had not posted the charge but would notify the person that was on duty when the charge was posted. Unfortunately, that person would not be in for another 48 hours. The Chase representative asked if I wished to file a fraud claim. I declined based on my conversation with Antlers Inn AND my understanding that the person from Antlers Inn that posted the charge would contact me by close of business on the day she returned. This did not happen. Nor did it happen the next day. After more than 96 hours of waiting to hear from Antlers Inn, I finally contacted Chase and (once again ) advised them of the circumstances of the charge and that I was in need to file a fraud alert and close my account under that card number. Apparently, these “anniversary” or “evergreen” charges are not unknown to the bank industry. I suspect that like any number of cardholders that we are not always ultra diligent in scrutinizing credit card statements. Had I not been looking for an unrelated charge I may never have caught the fraudulent entry. Of course, this experience also provided me with the joy of having to destroy my credit card, wait to receive the replacement and the notify any creditors that receive automatic payments of the new card number. Any of these annoyances are hardly worth a stay at this motel given the abundance of competitive choices in Vernal.
A decision to stay at Antlers Inn in Vernal is certainly one’s choice. But given my experience, I would remain watchful of charges from this establishment...even a year...
Read moreMy family and I had the pleasure of spending the "Days of 47' " in Vernal Utah. My boyfriend and his family lived in Vernal for many years so are very familiar with the area. As such, instead of staying at one of the chain hotels like we normally do ( and will from now on) we booked several rooms at the locally owned (and for sale) Antlers Hotel.... apparently infamous for once having Clint Eastwood as a guest. I assure you he wouldn't stay here now. However, "Dirty Hairy" would accurately describe the property. The only thing housekeeping could clean out was our luggage. When we requested to speak to the management about the problems we were having a shabbily dressed women appeared at our door claiming she was the mother of the girl assigned to "clean" our room. She told us she had searched her daughters room and was not able to find our missing items. After many minutes of circular logic I expressed the appropriate people to be involved in this matter was a manager and the housekeeper. It was at that point that she declared she was the manager and promptly turned around and left. I guess it was not a concern as a manager or mother that there was an issue. No resolution to the theft that occurred and she would not even enter our room to address or look at the poor job her staff had done. The bed was made.... no new sheets, clean towels were in bathroom, the dirty ones still on the floor. Nothing else was done, other than the close inspection of our luggage. It appeared as a brief "clean" , steal and dash job. The manager appeared unconcerned with our issues and offered no resolution. It has now been brought to our attention that the property is for sale. Good Luck with that, hopefully they will clean out the housekeeping and present management first. I wouldn't stay there again if they gave me a room for free. No stars or negative 5 stars would be my actual rating if that was allowed. Don't waste your time here..... Holiday Inn...
Read moreWe made reservations for this hotel (over other ones) based on the information available on the website-- which was all incorrect.
The seasonal pool, which is listed as open from April 15th until Nov. 4th was closed (to be open June 3rd). The workout room and indoor sauna, which is always supposed to be available, is also closed until June 3rd.
The 'free breakfast buffet' which the website displays beautiful photos of is cancelled, and doesn't look like it will be returning anytime soon.
The rooms are decent, clean enough, though the shower was lackluster (if you try to use the drain plug switch, the hardware comes off the wall. But the water was hot and the water pressure decent. I also appreciate that the rooms are dog friendly for an additional $10. The rooms were very cheap compared to other hotels in the area, so that was nice too. They provide free toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, razor, and soap, which was appreciated.
It wouldn't have been that bad except we planned our entire memorial day trip based on the website saying they had spool. We needed something for our three year old to do while some of our group went rafting- and so it whole plan/vacation was ruined for the half of the group that stayed with the three year old thinking they would get to eat breakfast and then play in the pool all day. The fact that the website doesn't communicate this information--and the staff doesn't tell you unless you ask, feels willfully deceitful. We wanted to cancel and go somewhere else, but because we didn't find it this information until we got there, we would have been charged an entire night's stay to cancel. Two stars because we felt lied to and would have chosen somewhere else if we had been properly informed. But the rooms...
