My husband and I recently enjoyed a romantic weekend getaway at A Storybook Inn. From the moment we arrived, the Inn felt warm and welcoming. Elise Buckley, the proprietor, was there to greet us, and take us on a tour of this truly lovely home. Each room was splendid and inviting. There were fresh flower arrangements; a touch of spring in mid winter. After touring the grand first floor we were shown to the Somewhere in Time suite. The door opened into a cozy sitting room with two comfy chairs and ottoman , a fireplace, and bookshelves. On the antique desk were lavender orchids; inside a silver tray service were two individual carrot cakes with cream cheese icing. My husband said he could taste the love. Coffee, tea, and bottled water were made available to enjoy anytime during our stay; which we greatly appreciated. The large bedroom was exquisite. The four poster bed was made with luxurious bed linens, and long draperies pooled onto the floor. Crystal sconces lit the room, and above the fireplace was an oil painting of the “Is it you?” scene with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve from the movie Somewhere in Time. The bedroom was dreamy. The bathroom was designed for a little pampering and relaxation; plush robes, towel warmer, and a candle lit air whirlpool bathtub with arm and headrests. HEAVEN! The first evening we arrived in Versailles we had early dinner reservations. The restaurant was recommended by friends of ours, and was relatively close to A Storybook Inn. We enjoyed our dinner, but we could not wait to get back to our lovely suite. Upon returning to the Inn after dinner we parked the car, and walked up the entryway stairs that lead to the large red door adorned with a festive wreath. I turned to my husband and said, “Honey we’re home.” He laughed and said, “This weekend it is.” Breakfasts are served in a room filled with natural light and sunshine. The windows are floor to ceiling. Our table had a view of the garden, and falling water stone pond. I can only imagine how beautiful the view from this dining room is in the springtime when everything is in bloom. Our table was set with fresh flowers, linen napkins, cut glass crystal water glasses, beautiful flatware, and stoneware. Printed menus were placed on the table. The menu read A Happy Storybook Morning to You! We are so glad that you are here! After reading the taste tempting menu, WE were glad WE were here too!!! Breakfast was decadent. Absolutely delicious. Freshly squeezed juice, and the best coffee. No need to rush into the day just sit back, and enjoy the delightful service. While dining we watched pretty little birds fly in for their breakfast; the bird feeders waiting for them. A Storybook Inn is a very special place. The Inn reflects all the love and care it takes to restore and maintain this exceptional bed and breakfast. Elise you are a phenomenal host. It is said, “The little things in life are what matter most.” You thought of every little thing. We loved every minute, and can’t wait to return. Thank you, and your staff for a most memorable weekend.

Read moreMy daughter and I are avid readers, and for her birthday, we thought it might be fun to hide ourselves away at a B&B and drink wine and eat chocolate and read a book together. ||I blindly googled where to have a reading retreat, and the very aptly named “A Storybook Inn” was one of my choices. Fate, no?! Turns out it was the absolute perfect place to do this! And as they were just coming off of a seasonal closure, we happen to be the only ones in the Inn at the time… so in addition to the gorgeous and spacious “Somewhere in Time” suite, we had the run of the public spaces: there was a beautiful solarium room overlooking the back garden, where the breakfast is also served (more on that yumminess later!); there was a large sitting room with comfy furniture and a giant gas fireplace; there is a cozy library room, complete with dvds and novels to borrow, in case you forgot to bring your own! (Of course, we borrowed “Somewhere in Time” and watched it in our oh-so-comfy bed in our pjs!); and there was another small room off the entrance with a chess board, etc. We made a point to read in every room, including the extra sitting room in our suite..and the large soaking tub!||At every turn, there was something delicious to nibble! At my request the proprietor, Elise, had arranged some chocolate covered strawberries and flowers for the room. But there were also surprise homemade cookies! We were also treated to warm cookies while we were reading in front of the fire the following day. And the breakfasts were amazing! They could’ve easily skimped on us as we were the only guests, but we got the royal treatment: scones and fresh juice/coffee/tea as a breakfast “appetizer” and then lovely egg dishes each day, with the eggs coming from Elise’s own chickens! With soft piped music and windows all around, we felt so pampered (and so full!) And she packed up the extra baked goods for us to take upstairs too! As it was 1 February, we did not take advantage of any of the outdoor space, but it was inviting as well!||The small town of Versailles is a good place to walk off all that brunch! And we could walk to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner (Volazzi’s.) We took advantage of the nearby Woodford Reserve distillery tour, and brought some back to sip while we read.||It was a magical stay, and I am currently trying to organize a friend group to return here for some “Bourbon Trail” fun, but my daughter and I have already decided to make this an annual event for the two of us! ||Thank you, Elise & company, for your...
Read moreMy husband and I have been blessed to have stayed at A Storybook Inn a number of times over the past 12+ years. Unlike some places one visits multiple times, the charm of this lovely place only grows warmer and friendlier.
One really must experience firsthand the graciousness of Innkeeper Elise Buckley and her staff. Everyone is so very warm, friendly, thoughtful, and helpful. Elise’s incredible attention to even the smallest detail is evident everywhere. The décor of the Inn is perfect—luxurious yet comfortable, and every square inch is absolutely immaculate. Each of the four classic movie-themed guest suites is so well appointed, with everything a guest could possibly need provided for. The Huntsman Cottage guesthouse with its 3.5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms is really a lovely home, complete with a fabulous full kitchen and cozy fireplace in the living room. The full laundry room is a real convenience. And just when you think it can’t get any better, delicious snacks of cookies, brownies, scones, or other baked treats appear in your room every afternoon. What a way to be welcomed home!
The grounds of A Storybook Inn are gorgeous and so peaceful. The garden with its ancient waterfall is a perfect place to enjoy an evening beverage, overlooking the property. There is also a firepit to warm those cooler nights.
It would be criminal not to rave about the truly amazing breakfasts served in the gorgeous conservatory with views of the grounds. You may find—like we have--lunch is not necessary after this hearty meal of clean, organic, and locally dishes. The omelets and quiches are made with clean, organic eggs from Elise’s own farm, and she also grows many of the herbs used in her cooking. The baked goods—what can I say! They are mouthwatering and marvelous. Fresh fruit is always included, along with your choice of juice and a variety of wonderful coffees. I promise you will walk away from these meals more than satisfied in every way.
If you’re looking for a beautiful, romantic location with so many nearby options for dining, nightlife, museums, gorgeous horse farms, and horse racing, or just relaxing on the lovely property of the Inn, we really encourage you to spend several days at A Storybook Inn. It will be one of your favorite...
