We booked this hotel awhile ago for a very difficult trip—driving 5 hours to attend a funeral—and were met with a disturbing and unacceptable situation. Upon entering our king room, we discovered a bloody handprint on the bathroom doorframe. When we brought it to the front desk’s attention we had asked if we could get some bleach to clean it ourselves but we were told they have no bleach (which is a huge safety violation)!!! All they had was disinfectant wipes which is not enough to properly sanitize it. We were told there was no housekeeping available, and the only solution offered was to downgrade us to a queen room. The reason I booked this hotel in the first place was because of the hot tub, king bed, location, etc.. but the hot tub was out of order (now judging by the reviews that’s been the case for quite awhile)… We ultimately chose to leave and stay elsewhere, but still ended up being charged for the quality inn room. Despite multiple attempts to contact management, no one ever followed up even after leaving my information. I had to involve my bank because the transaction made my account go negative after having to pay for not only that hotel room we didn’t even stay at, but also another hotel room on top of it elsewhere that we did actually stay at (the card only had enough on it for one room not two). The charge was eventually removed around a week later, but still the stress, lack of accountability, and sanitation issues were unacceptable/unprofessional. Also we felt so rushed out of there that we had left food in the fridge we really wanted, but didn’t want go back for after everything that happened. We were hoping for a relaxing stay being we were there for a very sad reason but it was anything but that! I hate having to leave negative reviews, but I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t warn others. *I don’t think this was the receptionist’s fault at all. Though I suggest having bleach on hand (not just for guests but if staff need it to clean up their own blood).. Having more staff would also probably be a good idea as it seemed pretty overwhelming for only one receptionist. Also having staff that doesn’t lie about the “manager not being in the office” basically any time or any day is not acceptable. Hopefully they can turn things around as the building is super beautiful, the location is nice, and it’s such a shame to see it managed so poorly.

Really cool historic hotel. I loved the old school feel of it and the rooms were clean and nice. Being an older hotel does have some drawbacks with smaller bathrooms and odd layouts. I was on the fourth floor and in a corner room which was really cool. The night staff was great and helped me find a parking spot. On a down note, the AC does not have a constant fan option. I will still stay there again!

Basically looks like a prison with a pool in the center? Very weird. Smells like dirty socks and chlorine. The elevator is super sketchy, and the handles for the doors to the rooms are sketchy as well. And dont even get me started on the rooms themselves. Third worst hotel I have ever been to. To top it off, the staff is petty and rude. Not a very quality inn.

Our room was ok. But, my friend, Sarah Johnson, was treated terribly by the manager on duty, Friday night Sept. 13, 2024. We had a large gathering (20 people) at the hotel, for my friend's husband who died last July. We plan to have a yearly memorial for him at the Gilbert Off Road Atv park.

Sarah had purchased a room online, and it was supposed to be big enough so that we could all go to her room for food and snacks. We planned to use it as a hang out/meeting area.

She went to open the room, but the card didn't work. She went down to the front desk and the woman working the desk said, "I don't program the cards." In a snotty tone. The manager then came out and got her cards that worked. But, upon opening the door, the room was a small hotel room, not what was posted online. So, she went back down and said to the manager that the room was way too small. Mot at all like what was pitured online. He said that doesnt matter ... it's not the right photo.... He was arguing with her, and saying the room you saw online isn't the room you are getting. This keeps happening all the time. I keep having to tell people dozens of times, that's not how it is." He was demeaning and dismissive towards her and her daughter. He should NEVER be customer facing employee. Our friends in the lobby at the time were appalled. Stunned that he would be such a jerk!

The manager did say she could have the conference room, because it was complimentary, first come first serve. Then later he said, I really should be charging you $100. What?? Again, he's a real jerk.

We probably won't be coming back to that hotel. Unless you can assure us that customer service there has done a complete overhaul. We payed $400 for this sub par experience.

Also of note, our room had 1 roll of tp in it for 3 people to use over 2 days. The box of tissue ran out right away. The duvet cover had some sort of gross brown stain on it. When I ran the water to take a shower, a huge amount of completely rusty red/brown liquid dumped out of the tub faucet for a few gallons until it cleared up. (Room 511)

The breakfast was good, but the coffee machine was not working. Also, the waffle dispenser wasn't working, and a customer that stays there frequently was working on fixing it. The employee just kept putting "OUT OF ORDER" post it notes on everything (coffee, juice and waffle machines).

The hot tub was also put of order. Very disappointing! The pool room was incredibly hot and humid, perhaps you could save money there by turning the heat down?

Perhaps there should be a regional director that can look into the working conditions. You might attract better people if some things were addressed with the staff and management.

Thank...

To be fair, I knew nothing about Virginia, MN when I booked this so this is just a review of the hotel, not at all the area. The hotel is exactly what you would expect from this level of chain. The room was a really decent size and it had windows that actually opened which was a first for me. It was clean and seemed fairly well maintained. The hot tub had apparently been broken for years. Don’t book this if you want a hot tub. We didn’t use the pool or sauna because there were a ton of kids in both which was totally ok with us. Let kids be kids. Bed was comfy, hotel pillows always suck and this place is no exception. The front desk guy when I checked in was SUPER nice. Gave me a welcome bag which actually had a lot of stuff in it. The poolside rooms, just know those hallways are HUMID. Like tropical rainforest. I’m worried about the paint and the ventilation but that’s just a me thing lol. Not a huge deal but if you are sensitive to chlorine, it’s overwhelming in the hallways. Parking was super easy for us - I am having a hard time understanding people that said this was a problem. There is TONS of street parking and a lot. The guy at the front desk was super helpful in telling me where to park to be closest to our room. The only reason I’m giving this a lower rating - the breakfast. Don’t tell me you have a breakfast and not have a single hot food item. You could make your own waffles (not for me) or heat up 2 different gas station sandwiches. If this had some eggs and some hot food, it would have been exactly what I expected from this stay. Overall, really decent hotel for the value, close to other things to do (if you drove) and what I would expect...
