I just experienced the worst hotel experience that I have ever had at this Holiday Inn Express. And, this says a lot given the amount of travel that I do for both work and vacation. I checked in Sun night and left the room Mon morning for work related business. I make a specific point to myself to remove the privacy tag from the outside of the door when I leave to make sure that I get new towels, etc. I return from work Mon afternoon and the room was not refreshed. Tues morning on the way to work related in the area I mention this in strong terms to the front desk. The one rep says immediately something to the effect, "This is Shirley". The other more senior rep conveys to me that she will make sure the room is taken care of (Tues). All is fine at this point. I return from work late Tues afternoon and there is a note on my bed. Housekeeping says she is sorry about the room not being refreshed but that I had the privacy notice on the outside of the door (i.e., MY FAULT). THIS IS TOTALLY FALSE. When I returned that Tues afternoon, I walked to about the center of the room near bedside, immediately turned around, and verified that the privacy notice was, in fact, hanging on the inside of the door. This verified that I did ensure that the privacy key was on the inside of the door when I left Mon -- NOT on the outside of the door. I check out Wed morning and only intended to return the two electronic room keys at the front desk upon leaving. But then the one male representative asked me how my stay was. I told him that I did not appreciate Housekeeping leaving me a note on the bed telling me that I was at fault because I left the privacy key on the outside of the door per the above. Per the account that I summarize above, this is/was 'BS'. Instead of apologizing to me upon the Wed checkout, the male rep idiotically asserted to me that what happened is that some 'vandal types' (allegedly) run around the floors of the hotel and mischievously insert privacy keys on the outside of room doors. Are you friggin' kidding me? If this isn't the dumbest thing that has ever been asserted to me -- its #2. I am a fair and reasonable person. I do not know for certain how Housekeeping failed to clean and refresh my room on Tues. BUT THERE ARE ONLY 2 POSSIBILITIES:
Our room was spacious and we liked having a kitchen/dining room. For Wabash, it is a slightly better than average chain hotel.
We were a bit uncomfortable on arrival, when we found that the property entry was behind the Kroger--just turn in behind the bales of the grocery stores' cardboard recycling.
In the room, there was a tiny nook for hanging clothes, not a closet, and barely enough space in it for clothes for 2 adults staying for a few days.
The room had 2 nice armchairs with foot stools, and a sofa. But the TV was arranged for viewing from the bed; it could be turned awkwardly to be viewed from the chairs but could not be arranged to view with any degree of comfort from the sofa.
The room had a foul odor on arrival, I went out and picked up some Febreeze to spray around which, over several days, helped but didn't eliminate it. We found a used up Glade plug-in behind the night stand, so it appears we were not the first to find it disturbing .
The bathroom ceiling had water damage from a leak from the floor above. Overall the room was showing it's age, frayed carpet edges, old bath decor...
The breakfast had absolutely no food except a half bagel, condiments, a cereal carrel, and a working juice machine. The hot foods were gone, there were essentially no bakery items or fruits and the pancake maker was down. The crowd was waiting patiently but when it was clear there was nothing being prepared someone complained. The desk staff immediately took charge of the breakfast and righted the problem, but it caused a delay in many people's travel plans.
We choose to "go green" and receive extra points for requesting fewer days of room service, but we discovered that our room had been cleaned in our absence. When I asked why it was cleaned, and if I would receive my points, I was told they did not honor that program and did not really even know what the green option was. I would have thought they should have disclosed this during my check in.
There were good things about the stay. The desk staff was responsive when notified of needs, the room was very large and most of the time was quiet, the bed was comfy, access to the state highway was convenient and it was near shopping. A restaurant named The Fried Egg was close by and has a simply amazing...
Read moreMy experience at this hotel has been awful. Let me put this out there before you stop reading. BED BUGS. In multiple rooms. I am a travel nurse, and I came in from out of town for 4 nights in a row, with 2 of my children, to work in a local facility with covid patients, 12 hour shifts 4 nights in a row. Things started off bad and ended worse. It's pretty dirty in the rooms, when you really take a close look. Sheets have stains, garbage cans when the garbage has been removed are gross, there's a really dusty and dingy atmosphere right away. The wifi signal is very poor, and that's just the way it is, no fixing it. I was switched rooms 3 different times, because they would not give me a refund on my 400 dollar stay for them having bed bugs, and I had to wait to get paid to leave. I stayed one night, and when I found the bed bug in the 3rd room, and asked for a refund that was refused, I was told that there was absolutely nothing they could do, that I would have to go through the booking agency to ask for a refund. The manager wouldn't even return my call. I had to go out, an hour before I was expected at work, to buy my kids and I new clothes, new shoes, new scrubs, at my expense, so that we could all shower, change into our clean clothes and leave the hotel. Everything we had, had to be bagged up in garbage bags and shoved into our trunk. Then I had to make hotel arrangements, at my expense, pay 300 dollars on top of the 400 dollars, and with the new clothing and hygiene supplies, food etc that I had to replace, this hotel stay for 4 nights in a dirty, bed bug infested hotel, has totaled up to over 1000 dollars. For 4 nights, and I only stayed one. I am disgusted by their unwillingness to make this right. I am disgusted by the manager clearly not caring at all, because she still has not called me. I came here, putting myself and my children at risk, to help the citizens of her community, who are sick and in desperate need of nurses to take care of them, and she was aware of the situation, and they did NOTHING to make this...
