This store is an experience. It can only be described as a treasure hunting paradise, and it is NOT for the faint of heart. This is not your neatly organized view the shelf kind of establishment, this is "it sits where it fits, and that's it." I have been a thrifting, antiquing, salvage yard crawling individual since I was knee high to a grasshopper and ya'll the place made me just stop. I just needed a dresser and a nightstand after arriving in Detroit last fall. Those diy build a furniture pieces aren't adequate enough for grown folk clothes. Thankfully as I short circuited one if the employees saw me and inquired what I was looking for, and then proceeded to lead me on an adventurous path around the store. He showed me one dresser then looked at me and said "Mm....no. That doesn't look like something you would want and much like the Hare in Alice he rushed off toward another section of the store as I raced to keep up. It's not only vintage- its also hotel liquidation, and he took me to a dresser that was exactly what I had been seeking, along with several matching nightstands. Then he said "Do you want to see the second floor?" Sir my wallet was not prepared for the first floor, let alone a second, I thought, as I politely declined the second floor invitation on the way to checkout, as I deftly retrieved a vintage leather attaché case that I didn't need, to add to my bill. My child would later lay claim to said case and we have agreed that it I will maintain custody unless he should find himself a law school graduate..... I can't tell you how ridiculously affordable the bill was, including delivery (delivery was in HOURS because the truck was coming to my neighborhood that day anyway!) Especially after weeks of looking on FB at "flipped" dressers for hundreds upon hundreds of dollars, or diy builds for double the unbuilt price, or even just grandmas dresser that hadn't even been wiped for photos. I went to a habitat store, thrift stores, and perused holiday sales with no luck...but Fred's laughed and said, "We gotchu." Will I be back? Absolutely, after string coffee and a protein filled breakfast, and maybe a headlamp to thoroughly examine every nook and cranny because it is after all a treasure hunters paradise. 10 out of 10-...
Read moreI own a non-profit senior group home and was looking for economical furniture and tvs for it. I went there and found almost everything I needed. I paid over $200.00 For everything that I got. My problem begined when I paid for delivery and they told me one price then changed it at the last minute! Then they delivered me a tv that was broke! Me and my clients were sitting in the group home wondering what happened. Then I called day after day asking for help but they keep telling me that I have to find a way to bring the broken tv back and pick up the new one. I explained that if I was strong enough that I never would have paid them to deliver it! The staff said on day 3 that he didn't have a driver to deliver the tv sorry. I was driving past the store a couple hours later and seen their staff putting furniture into the same truck that delivered my big tv and furniture. I was so hurt at how they were treating my low income seniors! I call and confronted the staff about what I had just seen. He told me that he is having a hard time getting new purchases delivered and dont have time to worry about a broken tv. I was furious after that and asked for the owner. The owner never called but I kept calling until I reached him on day 4. He said that he was really sorry about what I had been through and would make sure me and my clients would be takes care of tomorrow. He told me to call at 11 am The next day came and I called but his staff said he is not there. I told him what the owner had said to me yesterday. The older sounding staff said that he had been telling him abiut my broken tv situation fir days but he never told them to do anything about it. He fooled us! He acted like he cared and was going to make things right for a customer who had paid him hundreds of dollars for his furniture. I will not give up on getting justice for my low income seniors! Be very careful when buying any furniture from them or anything big that you cant...
Read moreNever really experienced discrimination, until visiting this place. My mother and I was casually driving along 8 mile and noticed this place was selling chairs. My mom wanted 4 chairs for our dining room table before the holidays and we wanted to patronize. Upon walking in we were very hesitant due to the overwhelming amounts of hoarder-like antiques piled to the ceiling. We were greeted by the owner Fred and he was super nice. He instructed us to go to the back for the nicer items and to meet with Michelle for assistance. When we met Michelle, we explained what we wanted and at first she wanted to work with us but we wasn’t rushing. I think we were taking too long to inspect the items before buying and she wanted to work with two other customers that were a mother and daughter like us but here’s the thing, they were white and taking their sweet time too. She was at their mercy but anytime we had a question or we wanted to bargain on the price of an item, we were dismissed. We had seen some study chairs that we wanted but the price was too high and granted there were spots on them. Eventually we would need to pay more money just to get them clean. She was that fast talking salesperson that wanted to tend to the highest bidder. Catering to the white customers and even saying out loud, “I know shoppers like you”. When Fred came by to check on us, at that point, we wanted to leave. We will never patronize a business that will knowingly dismiss their customers based on race. It’s 2022, racism and discrimination will never be tolerated anywhere but especially from such a bottom of the barrel...
