I had worked all day and hit the road that evening on a trip to Nashville. After driving 4-5 hours in storms, after work, I arrived at the hotel after midnight. I called prior to arriving and let them know that I'd be late, but we'd be there. There were no issues here. When we arrived, there was limited parking in the front of the hotel. As I drove around the property, it got darker outside and started sending up red flags around security. There were a few folks hanging around in their cars, one person hanging around in the outside pavilion (after 12:30AM), and two guys got into their cars and sped off individually as we rounded the corner. I drove back around the front and went in to check in. We had to call in from our own cell phones (no hotel provided phone) to reach someone at the front desk and confirm our name to be let in. This seems to be standard practice, but usually there is a hotel provided phone. One of the things I noticed right away was that I wasn't recognized for my IHG status. I didn't really think much about this, but it really stuck out when I stayed at a hotel that didn't acknowledge that. The hotel commons (not the room) smelled like a combo of weed and Febreeze Downy. I would have rather they just let the weed smell set there, instead of trying to mask it with spray. Checked into our room - the overall feel of the hotel is dated, even though the listing says renovated. The rack by the elevator had appliances that you could borrow from the hotel - like a crockpot. I thought it was interesting, my wife was a little turned off by that. We opened the door and the room was steamy hot. Typically, most of the IHG properties either had the air running for you or a semi-comfortable temperature. This room was terrible. Mind you, I just worked a full day shift and then spent 4-5 hours driving, to stop in Louisville for sleep. I wanted to sleep when I hit my room. I've never walked into a hotel room this hot before, so I turned on the unit AC and was going to try to fall asleep. When I shut my door, it appeared that the bottom door lock was broken off. At 2:30 AM, sweating and barely any change of temperature in the room, I decided that we weren't staying here any longer. I called IHG, booked a reservation at Hillview, moved hotels, and then slept comfortable. I let the front desk know and she tried to get me another room, but I told her that I had already made other reservations. I checked out the hotel prior to on Google Maps and liked its proximity to I-65, which was a bonus. The hotel reviews seemed to be some of the better ones for that area. While I did consider the price point, thinking that maybe I was picking up a lower quality hotel, I figured it was a cheaper rate for a Wednesday night into Thursday morning stay, so wasn't a primetime rate. When I started looking at their reviews again, I saw others comment about their catalytic converters being cut off and the hotel not having security - reading these, coupled with our door lock being broken, the people hanging out around the property outside after Midnight, and the general feel of the area, I knew we were better off leaving. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Their marketing shots are great, but like anything, they're deceptive at best. The hotel is a little dated. This is by far one of the lower quality IHG properties that I...
Read moreI stayed at the Candlewood Suites in Louisville for 35 nights. This was my first time in Louisville and first time staying at a Candlewood but unfortunately it was not a great experience for me. As a Platinum Elite IHG member, we typically get points as a welcome bonus but this was not even mentioned. I was visiting for work where I work day, night and swing shifts. This requires me to sleep during the day a lot of times.
However, there was construction going on in this hotel that was extremely loud. I am from a construction working family so I do understand construction noise. But, in this situation, I was unable to sleep after working graveyard shifts. The construction was so loud that my walls would shake with loud booms. Sleep was nearly impossible. This was also very unfortunate when I had a phone interview in my room and when I had to take an exam in my room. I also did not like that when I come home from work late at night, maybe around midnight, and there would be construction workers working right outside my door. I did not feel comfortable/safe with them seeing me walk into my room alone. Additionally, the hotel and rooms began to smell like cigarette smoke once construction started and I know the hotel is a non-smoking hotel.
Also, there were several days that I would come home from work or needed to go to work and the water would be completely turned off. It was extremely inconvenient to go several days where I could not shower before (or after) work, flush my toilet or even wash my hands.
Unfortunately, in addition to the lack of sleep from construction, I was also continually woke up by housekeeping. I worked a graveyard shift and spoke with the front desk about it beforehand. I knew that housekeeping came only once a week, so I did not want to miss it completely. I requested that housekeeping come later in the day. However, they came early that next morning waking me up after only a few hours of sleep. I answered the door and asked them to come back in the afternoon. Instead, they came back about an hour later. This is a minor thing but just things kept adding up and sleep was nearly impossible at the hotel with all these contributing factors.
The beds were very comfortable. I also appreciated the Pantry which had free coffee and a great selection of snacks and food. It was also very nice to have free laundry. This was a great feature. Additionally, Sandy at the front desk was very...
Read moreZero stars, do not recommend. I booked a room to accommodate my family of four, however when we arrived to check in, the hotel was overbooked and we were walked to a nearby hotel. No problem. The worker at the counter was very kind but clearly very overwhelmed. He called a nearby hotel, also part of the IHG family, and let me know that they had one room left and had me google the phone number of the hotel to get the address/directions. He said I would have to pay up front for the room, but would be reimbursed; he had an email from the regional manager that they would be covering the cost of all walks (this is also mentioned in IHG policies).. He took my name and phone number on a post it note to give to his manager and I could expect to be contacted. We arrived to the new hotel and they did have one room, with one bed and no roll away beds available. So some of us were sleeping on the floor… we were exhausted, it was late, and we had an early morning ahead of us, with no other options. Since, I have been attempting to receive my refund to no avail. It’s been months. I’ve spoken to IHG customer service several times and was eventually directed to just send a copy of my receipt from the other hotel to the email address associated with this hotel, which I did and have yet to receive a reply. I have followed up on that communication and received no response, to date. I called the hotel and spoke to someone who took my name and phone number (I assume on another post it note) and was told that the manager would “call me tomorrow.” That was a month ago. Now, when I call the hotel I receive an error message. I sent a communication to the hotels Facebook page, since their messenger icon indicated “replies instantly.” That was weeks ago, and you guessed it…. No reply. The hotel, itself, could be lovely, I wouldn’t know… but their customer service is horrendous. If you are interested in rolling the dice with booking a hotel that doesn’t guarantee your booking or follow their own companies policies related to overbooking, or you enjoy particularly frustrating customer service experiences, then this just might be the...
