Discount Audio — Local services in Louisville

My first visit to Discount Audio was in July of 2008. I won't get into the details of that, but I don't mind saying that it was a complete disaster (botched installation just prior to leaving town for a week). Later down the road when it was time to upgrade/add, I ordered what I needed from Discount Audio with full intentions of picking up my purchases and having someone else do the install. Once at Discount Audio to pick up the merchandise, I couldn't resist telling Elliott about my bad experience (three years of pent up frustration must come out at some point). Yes, I was able to do it in a calm and tranquil manner. Elliott was understanding and claimed to have pinpointed the problem; an employee that had since been fired. My point is this: Elliott gave me his personal assurance that if I gave him the opportunity to do the install, it would be perfect. Well, it was. That's worth something. I've been back a couple times since then. Once to have a new head unit installed and most recently to have my new truck outfitted with some new equipment and some that I was able to transfer from my 2008 F-150. Excluding my first visit, I've been completely satisfied. The prices are reasonable and somehow they always seem to have what I need. At this point, I plan to go back to Discount Audio for future purchases and installations. If this review warrants a revision at any point, I will certainly do so. I have never felt the need to write a review before, but after the way I was treated in the store, I felt this deserved it.

I'm a pretty calm and understanding guy. Usually I'll do most stereo / speaker installs myself or at Roberts electronics. I chose discount audio due to its proximity to my work. There's a few problems I encountered in my short time there

1. I witnessed the salesman selling an item under the table. The salesman told the person if they pay in cash that'll he cut the price by nearly half. After they paid, without any taxes, it looked like he pocketed the money.

2. The salesmen kept on trying to change and increase the prior negotiated price ($175) which went from being cheaper than the other car audio stores to almost double the negotiated price. When I stated that Roberts electronics gave me the $175 quote for everything that he insisted was "extra", he bragged about discount audio being the best and they won't half ass it. I agreed to wait some more while he went to the back multiple times. After asking how much longer it would be before we could set it all up, I was told to just go somewhere else.

Well, I did. I went to Roberts electronics afterwards and had everything done for discount audios original quote (the $175 before it was nearly doubled). At Roberts, they explained everything and were some of the most friendly workers I've dealt with.

Go somewhere else if you have to have something installed. I'd rather have a random person of Craigslist install my equipment before I ever come back to...

I was looking to buy a new head unit and system for my girlfriend for Christmas and I shopped around town and on the internet. When I stopped in Discount Audio I was immediately impressed with their selection, atmosphere, and staff. I was promptly greeted and had every question answered by the very knowledgeable and informative staff. I continued shopping around after my initial visit and found no better deal on the unit I had in mind and definitely found no better service anywhere else.. in some cases I couldnt even find service. I went back and got an incredibly awesome Alpine touch screen head unit and had it installed as well as a system I already owned.

The installation is one of the best I have seen yet. You would never know they were ever in the car except for the banging and beautiful new system that was installed. They definitely installed it right. Even ran the bluetooth mic through the headliner to where it is flush and functional in the center of the car. As far as the sub and amp install in the trunk it was done in a very clean and professional manor as well. They even built a custom mount for the amp and installed it which is great!

I could not be more satisfied with my experience at Discount Audio and will be using them for all my audio needs in the future. I would recommend them to anyone who knows a lot or nothing about car audio. They helped give my girl "The best Christmas present...
