I am impressed with the place. Stayed two nights recently. I’m not new to the Wellesley area, I live in town not too far of a walk from the Hills area, and wanted to see how this place was.
Margot who is the owner, is a very nice and accommodating person. Warm welcome, explanations of how everything works, room tour, house rules, and all you would need to know. She can also let you know of local spots in the area if you are new to it. Now the room I booked called the English Garden Room is a pretty unique one as it’s an en suite, which means it has a private bathroom along with the bedroom. It’s also got a smart TV with the Roku channel which does include Live TV with a great amount of channels. The bed, which is two beds joined together, is probably one of the best I have slept in. It was nice and warm, and I got a good sleep out of it. The mattress and blankets felt high quality, and the pillow was quite comfortable, for the value I’d say it was a high quality bed that’s very nice to sleep on.
Even though breakfast is a separate fee, since it is December so it’s a slower booking time, I got to try out some of Margot’s homemade breakfast which included waffles with organic maple syrup as Margot uses organic ingredients, and a Cranberry, Apple, and Walnut pancake. The waffles I enjoyed the syrup, and the pancake was quite a surprise. I hear you ask, what’s breakfast without coffee? As a non coffee drinker myself, I was very interested in what there was to mix into the coffee. One of them is a really good mixture of Cocoa powder and maple syrup, it’s a recipe Margot’s done all her life and it was very good once it was all mixed together. Another one was Eggnog instead of Half and Half creamer. That was an interesting combination.
Margot is a very nice person to chat with. I asked her about how she started the business, how everything went during COVID, interesting guests she’s had, etc and she’s a very nice person to learn about and overtime, it feels like you’ve been a life long friend with her.
Overall, I was very impressed. It’s in a great area of Wellesley, valued nicely, and I think you’d be very surprised whether you’re a local from the city, or from another country coming to visit. I’d suggest giving this...
Read moreinstead of going over the numerous negative points I will confirm that everything that other people have said their negative reviews is valid and unfortunately also experienced by us|First, it was difficult to locate the house because there is no sign. Secondly, the house itself looks poorly cared for and the front garden is a mess.. |taking off our shoes was done in a very confined area right at the front door as the very steep and slippery staircase is right upon you. The stairs were blocked by piles of stuff both at the bottom and the top making the entire action of getting to our room almost dangerous.|The room itself was a decent size but very cluttered. The sheets seemed clean, and there were many clean towels in the bathroom. The bathroom itself suffered from being very old, having cracks in the tiles in the shower and the liquid soap at the sink seemed to be diluted.|As was mentioned in another review, it was not a king size bed, but two beds pushed together. The room air conditioner did get the room to a tolerable temperature and was relatively quiet. There was a nightlight in the bathroom, which only functioned when the lights of the bathroom were on. Having a working nightlight was particularly needed in this room where there was a step down from the bedroom level into the bathroom level and one could easily fall at night.|Our host had a combination of trying to be helpful but was strangely demanding about our attention to numerous house rules. |There were many electrical wires that were not properly installed, and we did wonder afterwards about the safety level in terms of a fire. |During the middle of the night, there was a huge bang near our door and we wondered what was going on with some alarm.|I’m sorry to say that aren’t stay was really not very pleasant. This was not the kind of experience that we expected. I guess we missed reading all of the negative reviews and in retrospect I am wondering about the validity of those reviews which rave...
