Quebrada Baking Company — Restaurant in Wellesley

I have been to this location a number of times for their iced coffee and pumpkin muffins. Both are divine. Today, however, the woman who 'helped' me was awful. Most of the staff are pretty young, but this was the only woman who appeared to be over 25. She was angry, first of all. Secondly, when you ask someone what they want and they say the first thing, don't just walk away to go get it. I was going to order a half caf iced coffee, and a large quarter caf, as well as some muffins. Instead, I said the half calf iced, and she walked away. I called after her that I was getting two coffees, hoping to save her the trip, and save the MANY other customers time. She stops, 5 feet from the register and just looks at me so I proceed to tell her i also want the large quarter caf. She looked upset and said "Hold on, what?!?" I got so irritated I just told her to make mine all decaf. She was rude even after simplifying my order to suit her lack of customer service, asking angrily "do you want room for cream?!!" In the end, I didn't get what I wanted to order because of this woman, and she left a terrible taste in my mouth. I will not be back, which is a shame, because they have the best iced coffee ever. Management needs to address this, however, because a customer should be able to order whatever coffee they want. Seriously this...

I never had an issue until today coming here for the last couple of years. The last maybe 5-6 months I’ve been getting the same phone order every Thursday/Friday mornings (sometimes Saturdays if I work 3 days a week). I called in this week and the lady over the phone was giving me problems saying “they don’t do drinks for phone orders” and kept denying me when I told her I’ve been getting it literally every week for almost half a year now.. she then gave the phone to the manager who explained to me that “they don’t do that” but was more polite about it. All in all I’m very disappointed with this as this used to be very convenient for me to put an order in and pick it up right before work without having to wait in line, but now they’ve lost me...

I love the old style look of the bakery, the decorative look of their cakes but, the flavor of the cakes fell short of expectations. Their recipes use too much baking powder and/or soda so it leaves a characteristic alkaline flavor...much like the smell of freshly mixed mortar or cement. I "get it" these are hearty baked goods, but they have to work on their mixing technique, by not deflating the cake batter. It seems they are making up for their technique shortcoming by using too much leavening agents, like baking soda. Also, they seem to use alot of vegetable shortening (hydrogenated fats) in their buttercreams...I wonder what they will do when the FDA eventually bans their use?
