Super 8 by Wyndham Ogden — Hotel in West Haven

I wish we would have listened to the reviews. Trust me, after our experience we know they are all true.You've been warned ;)

First off, before the story that I am about to tell even happened the first thing I noticed when we got to our room was that it was dirty. I am not high maintenance, but I at least want a clean hotel room for almost $90/night. There was pubic hair on the top of the toilet tank in the bathroom and on the vanity, and the overall look is that it wasn't properly cleaned up after the last guests. The property is pretty dirty, too, which we got a view of during the few minutes we actually spent in the room. Overall the whole place was grimy (just as other reviews point out).

Here's the kicker: We made a reservation to stay here while we were moving from CO to WA. We selected here not just because of price, but largely because the website said it had large vehicle parking. No, it doesn't. The owner threw a hissy fit at 8:30pm because we parked our moving van in the lot. He said "big car" parking was across from the hotel, which is a shady lot that he doesn't even own. First, what was the big deal of us parking it in his huge lot? He said everyone would want to do it - like I said, it was 8:30pm and even if 5-10 more moving vans came in late there would still be PLETNY of space for many, many more cars. He has cameras all over his lot - it is a dodgy area - and so we did not feel comfortable leaving all of our possessions in this insecure spot, especially since this was the sole reason we wanted to stay here. We told him this. Long story short, he is SUPER rude. He got super aggressive immediately and told us he was going to tow us. We told him that's fine, we won't park it here, but that means we want our money back and will go somewhere where it can be in a lit lot and feels safe. He basically laughed and said he already has our money and we aren't getting it back. We were in disbelief. Who did this guy think he was? We went back and forth for a little bit with him, but he was totally unreasonable and thought he could just do what he wanted and keep our money. (He didn't, we called our credit card company and disputed the charge, which was refunded - in case this ever happens to you here. We had attempted to get a refund through the Super 8 corporation, which they said they would do after we got ahold of them after waiting on hold for 45 minutes, but they had to call us back - and we are still waiting for that call.)

In the end we went to the Motel 6 about 5 minutes up the road. It was very, very clean and nice (I think it's remodeled), there was a super nice woman working the desk, it was a very clean property and well-lit parking lot, and ... A POOL! For $30 less, mind you. Skip the Super 8 douche and just head straight to the Motel 6 (or somewhere else if you aren't looking for budget).

This happened mid-June and it is now the end of July. The reason I am still taking the time to write this is because it was a terrible experience that should be on their google reviews for all to see (and hopefully take the warning and go...

BED BUGS! Room 222! DO NOT STAY HERE! My gf and I were going to stay here for the night of her bday but it was cut short after I discovered what looked like a small bed bug on the floor of the bathroom... I wasn't 100% positive it was a bed bug due to how small it was until I took a closer look around...

I inspected the rest of the room and while the bed seemed to be fairly clean (despite a clear cigarette burn hole in the top blanket OF A NON-SMOKING ROOM), I discovered BED BUGS coming in and out of the baseboards in the right hand corner next to the AC unit... I know what bedbugs look like, i've dealt with them in an old apartment before and they are a nightmare! The one in the bathroom was just a nymph and difficult to identify at first but the two I saw crawling under the baseboards when I was searching around with my light were large adults with flat, rounded abdomens and were very clearly bed bugs! We gathered our things and left the room the second I positively identified them!

My gf left a review a few hours ago while I was driving far away from this nasty place and the responder for this Super8 is a complete and total liar on her post! I BROUGHT DOWN A BED BUG ON TOILET PAPER THAT I KILLED IN THE BATHROOM MYSELF AS PROOF TO THE FRONT DESK! You are really going to tell us that you didn't find anything in that room? Did you remove the baseboards and check behind them?? The elderly gentleman in the lobby saw the bug I brought down himself and left with his wife and dog as well! Luckily I took a few pictures before I brought it down so I can prove that you are lying!

I can forgive the smell of cheese in the hallways, the massive amount of dust behind the bed, headboard, nightstand, and tv AS WELL as the constantly leaking tub faucet in the bathroom for a cheap room but having bed bugs and LYING about it is absolutely unacceptable. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Denying me an immediate refund to my card after I turned in my room key and provided physical proof by setting a bug ON YOUR DESK is beyond absurd. I have contacted the site I booked this room through and submitted a request to them for a refund but they said they have to negotiate with YOU for some kind of "cancellation waiver" which means you lied AGAIN. I saved screenshots of my conversation with their customer support and will post here or any other review site if I need to!

Come tomorrow, if I am denied or LIED to again, I will be filing a chargeback as well as a fraud claim and will be reporting this disgusting place to every government agency and consumer reporting site I possibly can! How DARE you charge people money for bug infested rooms and have the audacity to...

So... What should I say? Before you glance at another review stop and read this one.

We stopped here because my husband made reservations and we'll... You can't cancel. There's a mark against.

In the hotel there were stains on the sheets. (Though they did offer to give us new sheets) stained sheets should be destroyed. They never got us new sheets. The stains were see through.

We couldn't play our Google home on the tv and the guy over everything seemed real irritated we tried. So don't try to change the tvs input. It stops working. Minor inconvenience.

The biggest issue? How filthy it was. I had no idea there was lipstick or whatever (I'm praying it was a kid messing with their mom's makeup) shoved in the door stop behind the bathroom door. My youngest found it and decided to scoop it out and put it on her lips. The people In charge didn't understand the fears we had with our kid using someone else's makeup. They did a quick wipe down and that was that. They still left stuff in there. Two people came in to do the cleaning up. (I would've sanitized and cleaned everything up if I ran that motel) the floor was very stained too. Not a big deal but for a family where the kid loves to sleep on the floor that was hard to explain to my kid don't sleep on the floor.

Outside there was also this unknown stain that went down the stairs into the gravel on the side of the motel. Not sure what it was. Just knew step over it. Looked like it had been there a while.

The other issue is... We forgot a very important bag. (It's easy on a cross country trip) we'll they won't ship. So now I'm stuck in n out of data trying to get my important bag back. If this was medical supplies I'd be screwed. The good they did hold it for us and someone did bring it in to them. So that's a plus.

So... Yep... I honestly won't be staying there again. I hope they clean up their act. It was a place to bundle up and sleep. The ac works great. The heater smells like it'll catch everything on fire. Oh and the window won't lock! Heads up. Also, there are a ton of wolf spiders outside. Not a big deal to me... Might be to others.

So the good... even though they didn't really speak English they tried. They did keep my bag for a few days till we could get a shipper to ship my stuff. Everything is accounted for in my camera bag too. So that's a plus. I honestly just think their idea of clean and my idea of clean is different. It's not a bad place if you don't have kids that explore. But if you have kids avoid this place. I bumped it up one star because the service for keeping my camera gear is good.
