Read moreOverall, we thought this hotel was a really good place to stay especially because we there for a surgery at a nearby hospital, about a 10 minute drive from this hotel. Stayed 12 days.||So based on our needs, this hotel was excellent - here's why:|- the rooms are very spacious! So when spending a lot of time in the room after surgery, it's very nice to feel spaciousness.|- The room type we got was '2 Queen Beds, suite, 2-person sofabed'. ||What we liked:|- The bathroom was large, very nice and clean. |- Great to have a mini-fridge, microwave and Keurig machine.||Some issues but not a very big deal:|- There was a safe but it was broken and after asking 3 times if they could look at it, we were told that they could not repair it. |- The TV channel guide is odd - the channel guide does not match the actual channels (it would be helpful if the hotel provided a legend to make things easier as we had to create a legend ourselves.). |- There were other things in the room what really needed maintenance - like the mini-fridge door not moving well, the luggage bench was ready to break and a big stain on the sofa. |- The lobby bar was really good to have there, but although it was supposed to serve meals while we were there, they did not serve, but we could sit and have a beverage. But having the restaurants across the street was more than enough choice, and we could get delivery to the hotel if we wanted that.||Recommendation is to request a room on the top floor. We had people above us almost every night and it was really noisy! But the surrounding area is quiet, which was good.||Parking is free and very easy, although we didn't use it, because we used Lyft and Uber everywhere we needed to go.||The staff were nice, and in particular, Victoria at the front desk was a joy to see every day. She recognized us, and added a really nice smile to our day :) Thank you Victoria!||- THE LOCAL AREA HAS EVERYTHING you need and is adjacent to the hotel's property | 1) Right across the street is Essex Green (a strip mall) - with a giant ShopRite grocery store (has a pharmacy) and a huge selection of prepared foods that you can grab & take-away and heat up in the room's microwave. There is also a good selection of restaurants from fast food to Panera to sit-down restaurants. The Kinya sushi/ramen place is excellent, and so is the Hook & Reel seafood boil (so good!). There are also 2 clothing stores (Macy's backstage and Burlington). Also movie theatres. | 2) Behind the hotel is a new public library which is great if you just want to hang out...
What can I say? This hotel is truly not bad, as far as physical things are concerned anyway. But the way in which it is ran is a recipe for disaster. For starters, the general manager constantly blames guests for problems that have persisted at the hotel, or simply ignores those problems until it’s bad enough that someone has complained. These responses from her? I’m sure a lot of guests would love to see what she is actually saying behind the scenes, and this is coming from a former employee. She is ran by the RVP who refuses to properly equip his staff and then fire them for not having the proper tools to succeed. Constant profanity is heard in the hallways, back offices, and pretty much everywhere the GM is present. She does not show up to work, is vulgar and rude and is overall not fit to run a hotel. The reason she is doing so is because of the RVP who is all of those things and has trained her to be a mirror of him even though she constantly speaks about how she hates him and dreads his calls. As a former employee, knowing how the staff talks about guests, puts them down, and then pretends to care about things is enough for me to never stay here. Choose your stay wisely, this place is toxic. If you’re reading about Althea Jordan that is about the only good thing they have to offer. Otherwise, you will not enjoy your stay at this poorly ran wannabe hotel.
Edit: in response to the reply from the GM, when reviewing a business, the reviews are supposed to reflect EVERYONE’S experience at a place not just guests. Employees have even better insight on the conditions of the place, because we see the pee soaked mattresses under the sheets (true story), the unhygienic gym with 9/10 machines broken, the cleaning methods or lack thereof. I actually think if more employees reviewed the place from their experience, you probably would’ve even have anymore guests to leave reviews. I understand you have to keep your response PC, but you and I both know what actually goes on there and all it will take is for the mask to slip for a second so people can see how truly lackluster the Cambria is. Never forget that the employees are the reason your place is even running. If you don’t value their experience and choose to value the guest experience over theirs, you really don’t deserve to run the...
Read moreI didn't like customer service regarding an issue with the bathroom mirror. I asked the front desk to send a maintenance man to my room 326 to fix the bathroom mirror which did not light up. Was told maintenance was gone for the day and would fix it on Saturday. The time was approximately 4:00 pm on Friday, August 2 when I reported the problem. I checked in at 3:07 pm. It was not fixed the next day and when I inquired about it at approximately 1:30 pm, I was told maintenance ordered a part for the mirror and did not know when it would be delivered. I feel that a courtesy call should have been made to me to let me know this and/or the maintenance person should have come to my room to inform me. Since maintenance did not come to my room between Friday check in and Saturday, how and when did they know a part was needed? If the front desk was aware of the problem when I checked in, why did they put me in that particular room? I take issue that the front desk did not offer me another room on Friday when I told them of the problem. When I was informed on Saturday that the mirror would not be fixed during my stay, I asked to be moved to a different room. I was told the hotel was entirely full and they had no other rooms. My complaint is that the front desk did not offer to give me a different when I told them about the issue on Friday. I also have issue that the front desk did not reach out to me to let me know the mirror would not be fixed during my stay. In other hotels when I first get to my room and discover an issue, I usually am offered a different room when I inform them of a problem. If they had told me on Friday that the mirror would not be fixed, I would have had time to look into booking into another hotel for a Saturday stay. Therefore, I am not happy with customer service at the Cambria Hotel. However, the cleanliness, decor, amenities, and accessibility to nearby stores are all great features of this hotel. Lesson learned from this experience: Ask to change rooms immediately once I detect a problem with the room and not wait for maintenance to fix the problem because they may never come during my stay and then I am stuck in a room that I'm...
