As a devoted ramen enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for the next great bowl of noodles. When I heard about Kinya Ramen & Sushi, I knew I had to give it a try – and I'm happy to report that it exceeded my expectations in every way.
From the moment I stepped into the cozy, modern space, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. The lighting and wooden accents added to the overall charm, making it a perfect spot for a casual night out or even a date night, despite it being located in a mall.
Our waitress, Seline, was amazing.. She was more than happy to make recommendations based on our preferences. Throughout the evening, she struck the perfect balance of attentive and unobtrusive service.
Now, let's talk about the food. The ramen at Kinya is, simply put, divine. I ordered the 🌶️ Spicy Ramen, which featured a rich, creamy pork broth that was both deeply satisfying and packed with flavor. The noodles were perfectly cooked, maintaining a springy texture that complemented the tender slices of chashu pork.
In addition to the ramen, we also sampled some of their sushi offerings. The maki rolls were fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The Spicy Tuna Roll was a standout, with just the right amount of heat to keep things interesting without overwhelming the palate.
The true star of the evening was the Tayaki dessert (pic above). This fish-shaped pastry, filled with sweet red bean paste, was the perfect end to our meal. The pastry was light and crispy, while the filling was smooth and not overly sweet. It was, without a doubt, one of the best Tayaki I've ever had.
Overall, Kinya Ramen & Sushi is a must-visit destination for any ramen and sushi lover. Between the exceptional service provided by Seline and the outstanding quality of the food,
I'll be eagerly awaiting my next visit to Kinya to satisfy my ramen cravings and to explore more of their delightful...
Read moreThis is the first sushi place I've been to that doesn't have the standard sushi dinner or sushi deluxe dinner with a nice assortment of sushi and a roll. I thought that was kind of the standard. They do have something with a few pieces of sashimi and a few pieces of nigiri, but it's way overpriced at $35. They do have what they call a sushi taco which is very fairly priced at $15 for three pieces. It's quite filling but there's just one problem, it's hard to eat because it falls apart. When you make a sushi tamaki, it's sort of a cone and you bite from the top down and everything stays in place. But when you have a sushi taco, and you bite down everything falls apart. So the best way to eat it is from the top down with chopsticks until you get near the bottom, then you can pop the thing in your mouth or bite on it. It's a good amount for the money. Not great but it's okay. It was nice that once you order tea they keep bringing it. Based on the prices of what you get for the money, let's say the sushi is way out of line for the neighborhood. Even though everything looked good and fresh, I don't think the overall packaging and delivery works for me at least. Another big disappointment is that they don't have lunch specials. Another advantage of going to sushi place at lunch time is you get a little more for a little less, or maybe a little less for a little less. But they only had one assortment and that was $35, same for lunch or dinner. That was also disappointing. A list of 10 lunch specials that are easy to make would have made this place a lot more interesting...
Read moreI had my 1st visit to Kinya on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with friends. I am happy to see a new sushi and ramen restaurant in West Orange. I loved the decor. It didn’t disappoint. The restaurant is surprisingly very big. It appears so much smaller from the outside.
I am vegan and had the vegetable ramen as my entree and edamame for my appetizer. A friend had the spicy ramen with shrimp and another had shrimp tempura ramen. We all shared the bit of kimchi that is placed on the table shortly after we are seated.
Our server was Angel, and he was really great, pleasant and attentive.
Overall, we all enjoyed our meals. I do wish however that there were more vegan options. I was disappointed that there was no more than one vegetable roll. From experience at other sushi restaurants even if there aren’t vegetable sushi on the menu, the chef can prepare them. I asked if they could make a sweet potato roll or asparagus, avocado and cucumber roll and was told by Angel that they didn’t have those vegetables and could only offer what’s on the menu. Angel did suggest a type of sushi wrap that he said would be sweet, as a replacement for the sweetness of a sweet potato roll, but I declined and just went with the vegetable ramen.
I didn’t get a chance to try the drinks, but I would go here again to see what the evening atmosphere is like and try a drink or two then. All in all, even though the vegan options are very limited, it’s okay. I could see myself visiting again if only to enjoy the great service, good food, and the enjoyment of having a meal...
