I have just returned from a mother daughter weekend in the Amish country near Westby, WI. My daughter chose The Westby House Inn as our place to stay. This B & B is spectacular in every way. The owners, Cyndi and Scott, go to great pains to be sure that you have everything you need or could want. They are both such welcoming people that you feel at home from the moment you step in. Cyndi's background in interior design is immediately evident. Every public room in the house is exquisitely decorated in the Victorian style. Lamps, lace curtains and table runners, pictures on the wall, clocks..side tables, couches,...all period pieces...converge to give you the illusion of having stepped back in time to the Victorian era. ||The hospitality and ambience are exceeded only by the marvelous food here. The breakfasts are out of this world good and constituted (easily) the best food we ate anywhere in town. Fresh and seasonal ingredients, including from Cyndi's and Scott's own garden, find their way to your breakfast plates. All recipes are executed flawlessly and artfully presented. Some of our favorites: fruit cup with the best (local creamery) yogurt I ever ate, white chocolate blueberry cheesecake, marinated tomato salad, breakfast pizza, honey bun cake, blueberry scones,..... And the food goes beyond just the breakfasts. An early evening dessert is offered as well as a pre-breakfast goodie for the early risers who have trouble waiting until the appointed 9AM breakfast. An amply stocked and complimentary snack drawer, multiple candy dishes placed throughout the house...the amenities go on and on. ||Treat yourself and book a reservation at this B & B. Your visit will be more than a nice getaway. It will be an experience that will stay in your memory until your...
Read moreDuring the middle of June 2021, we went trout fishing in the Driftless Area of Southwest Wisconsin. Based on a recommendation from a colleague, we decided to stay at the Westby House, an old Victorian mansion converted into a Bed and Breakfast. The house was impressive, complete with late 19th century furnishings. We chose one of the smaller rooms which was a little bit tight for the two of us. Next time, we will choose a larger room. The best part were the proprietors Cyndi and Scott who really looked after our every need, especially Cyndi with the food! We arrived on an evening where the local restaurants were closed, so we ordered the Charcuterie platter, which Cyndi served in the outdoor shaded patio. Wow! Shrimp cocktail for two, meats, cheeses, crackers, olives, fruit, and even caramel cheesecake slices (which we enjoyed later, after the evening’s fishing). Since we wanted to get an early start fishing the following morning, Cyndi provided a continental breakfast outside our door with coffee, OJ, yogurt with fruit, biscotti, and BIG muffins (we ate the muffins for lunch while fishing). The next day, we partook of the full 4-course breakfast: yogurt with fruit; hash brown potatoes, eggs, and bacon; blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup; and finally, cinnamon bread budding. The food was great, and there was, so much of it! Moreover, the room and meals at Westby House were at a very reasonable price. Thanks, Cyndi and Scott. We will be choosing Westby House for our next trip to the Driftless area.

Read moreOur trip to the Driftless Area as well as our stay at Westby House Inn were both a first for us, and the bar was set high! While I have no other B&B experience to compare it to, I must say our time spent here was truly memorable and much preferred to a hotel. The hosts, to begin, were wonderful and Marie was very accommodating. We stayed in the Tower Room, best room in the house, which was immaculately clean and so well-appointed and lavish in its period decor, the old soul in me was in heaven! If you can splurge for this room, I highly recommend it -- so very unique and beautiful, you feel like pure Victorian royalty in the Tower part of the house. Adjoining parlor was great, as well, for extra seating, space, and further decor and furnishings style to take in. House was also very quiet, we felt like the only guests there and this experience continued at a late breakfast the following morning in the formal dining room. The food was delicious and the ambiance, divine! All local ingredients, and Marie cooks your breakfast herself :) I personally ate selections prepared for us that I'd be hesitant to try at home but Marie is a fabulous cook and our meal was amazing. Main dish were griddle cakes with a berry sauce and some type of nut garnish - very good! Also enjoyed the vanilla yogurt with seasonal fruit, courtesy of the creamery just down the road. Everything tasted very fresh and full of flavor. What a gem of a place tucked away on the outskirts of Western Wisconsin! We just loved everything about this place. Westby House Inn gets...
