We were preparing to move and decided to stay at this place for the last 10 days of our time here in Wichita. We figured we could save a little money if we went with a long-term place where we could cook our own meals, etc. There are so many things that made our stay miserable!||||1. They nickle and dime you to death! If you have pets, there's a daily fee per animal (not much, only $5 per pet per day, but eventually, it adds up). They advertise free basic internet. The key word here is BASIC. If you want to be able to do anything beyond just checking email (maybe) then you have to pay anywhere from $3-$5 a week. Laundry is in the neighborhood of $6 a load to wash and dry. There's a $25 fee if the room isn't clean enough for someone else to live in when you leave (not that it's really super clean when you first go into a room to begin with). ||||2. They advertise themselves as pet friendly, but really, they expect you to keep your pets kenneled when you're not in the room. You can't even request that no one from their staff enter your room (I understand wanting to protect staff from animal-related injury and wanting to protect the hotel from liability issues), you just are expected to keep your animals kenneled at all times when not in the room. With our hectic schedules for preparing for a move, this means animals spend a lot of time in kennels. This means they have little access to food/water for most of the day (they knock their bowls over), and have accidents that require lots of extra cleaning. This is very stressful for the animals and us.||||3. They promise better quality internet for a fee, but totally don't deliver. We paid $10 for 2 weeks for unlimited devices and the highest level speeds available. The wifi here works on occasion, but, more often than not, we're turning wifi off on our devices and relying on our data plan. It is absolutely NOT worth paying for.||||4. I have no complaint about the people who work in the office. The staff have been very polite and courteous. My complaints, in general, are primarily with how this place is run. ||||Obviously, my expectations for a cheap, long-term hotel are very different than my expectations for your run-of-the-mill vacation hotel. I wasn't expecting high quality beds, or even the cleanest rooms. I just don't expect to have extra fees constantly thrown at me at a place promising a low cost. I also don't expect to have to keep my cats kenneled constantly or to pay for additional amenities that don't actually work. I do expect a place like this to be more up front and honest about their fees for cleaning, internet, etc. Ultimately, taking into consideration a one time pet fee per animal per stay (not day), free breakfast, free internet, and a microwave, the Super 8 is by far a better deal once you take into consideration all the hidden fees of this place. If you want to save yourself a headache,...
Read moreI hate leaving such a poor review because the manager was a very friendly and pleasant lady.
I found the conditions of the room to be substandard. There was a horrible smell throughout the facility, but it was even worst in my room. I would use the term unbearable. After leaving to run some errands and coming back to my room I was hit with such a foul odor (I assume coming from one of the other rooms) I had to go to the grocery store next door to buy air freshener. I had a ritual of spraying the entire room with obscene amounts of air freshener every time I entered the room.
In addition to that, the room had no curtains, only blinds. The lights in the parking lot made the room so bright at night. Luckily I did prepare for this and had an eye mask to sleep with.
I will say the other guests, for the most part, seemed to be respectful of each other's privacy and the hotel itself was pretty quiet aside from the occasional bass heavy car. I was prepared to relive my apartment days where I could hear TV's, conversation, and arguments in the hallway, but I was shocked at how quiet the hotel was...
In my opinion, installing blackout curtains like most hotel rooms have and adopting better cleaning habits would bump my review from one star to 4 if not 5. The smell was really bad so I am thinking one star deduction for the lack of adequate light blocking and a two star deduction for the lack of cleanliness (the smell in the room was REALLY bad). The final star is being deducted because I initially booked the room with the expectation that our checkout date not definite. We started paying week to week but as it looked like our check out date was approaching we paid for a few days at a time. I explained my intentions and when I went to checkout with one day pre-paid the front desk took my keys and said I was good to go. I asked if the refund would be automatically applied to my card "We don't do refunds" she responded flatly. Huh? well that would have been good to know especially as we explained what was happening and we might be...
Read moreI booked on line ,when I showed up to check in I had my service dog with ,the guy at the desk said there is a charge for pets, I explained he's not a pet and that he's a service dog ,he's not a Esa service animal but a service dog. He told me that my service animal was was not because I wasn't blind, he processed to ask me what he was for I explained to him and he still wanted to charge, I told him I'd just pay the fee and then let my lawyer take care of this as in the state of Kansas they can not charge a fee for service animals, he then said nope you're not staying here and refused service to me. He even called the cops as I wasn't leaving until I was refunded. I had booked it on line and while I was on the phone with the booking company the cops showed up told me if I wouldn't leave they'd charge me with trespassing, as I was still booked with this hotel and was still being billed told them as soon as I receive my refund I'll leave , had to make the officer do his job and make a case report to get the case # for future reasons as it's a class 3 misdemeanor in the state of Kansas to charge a fee on a service animal or refusing service for someone that has disability. Definitely definitely would not recommend this place at all if you have a disability. I'm editing this post with pics of the ada service guides so people can see the rules and laws so hopefully they don't run into the issue I had. And to show you their staff and management...
