My wife and I stayed here only because the Holiday Inn Express was booked and I read the reviews of others. It sounded comparable, but (1) it did not live up to HIE, and (2) it did not live up to the highly favorable reviews.
First, for whatever reason, the desk attendant had all kinds of problems even locating our reservation. It wasn't until after he called the manager that he found our reservation printed out and lying upon on his desk. That said, the attendant was kind and professional while he fumbled around to locate us.
Second, the room was warm when we first walked in. No biggee. We simply turned down the air conditioner. But, then as the evening went on, we started discovering things like dust bunnies on the floor at the head of the bed. The toilet seat was loose and had been replaced with something Home Depot that did not fit the bowl. Probably the grossest discovery was the moldy grout in the shower walls. Then there was the television remote that didn't work properly, which the attendant came upstairs and replaced a gadget on the tv, so that it kinda-sorta worked.
Third, as for breakfast the next morning, it was pretty much standard. Nothing fancy. It was probably the best part of the stay.
Fourth, when Best Western sent me a survey email the next day, I submitted what we experienced, only to be sent a follow-up email from the General Manager of the place basically accusing us of lying. He wrote, "Have not found anything wrong with the toilet seat or bath walls, We do inspect our rooms after each stay, have not found anything on head board. Yes i understand the TV and remote control problems and we are about to switch to all smart 52 inch tv's soon."
He cc'd his response to someone else, which I took the liberty of telling whoever of my further dissatisfaction with his response.
I would have given the place a 3-star rating until the General Manager wrote what he did.
Was it a terrible stay? No. At least there wasn't mold and dust bunnies growing in the bed. It just didn't live up to the reviews, and I suspect that if the General Manager continues in his denial, then the place will degrade. Whatever the case, we won't be back. We'll either stay at the Holiday Inn Express there in South Wichita, or simply keep driving until we find one.
All the best to those rolling the dice with this Best...
Read moreOMG, let's start with the fact that the front desk clerk could not speak English. It was very difficult asking him a question because he didn't know what the hell I was saying.🙄 Next thing, when we got to our "non-smoking" room It smelled horribly like smoke. So much that it was making me sick and I couldn't stay in that room. I was asked to be moved and I was put on the second floor. The only good thing was the front desk manager was super helpful and very nice and apologetic. She checked our room to make sure it was okay for us and it was. If it wasn't for her I would only give it two stars. The water pressure was great but the shower head did not adjust and the water sprayed directly at my face so I had to take a shower to the side of the tub. Everyone is not 6 ft tall. Also some of the towels needed to be in the trash. You could see straight through them. You don't give those to a guest. When a towel doesn't absorb water it's not a towel anymore.
The last thing that troubled me was the next morning when we had breakfast. I went down to the breakfast area and all of the tables were dirty. This was an hour before breakfast was supposed to close. I asked the same front desk clerk that checked us in the day before if someone could clean one of the tables off so we could sit and eat. And he had no clue what I was saying. He told me to go sit down, which came off really rude but it was mainly because I think he didn't understand me. The entire time we were in the breakfast area no one came to clean up or check the food or replenish it. The coffee was completely empty and the food was cold. I understand if they don't have enough workers and the front desk person is handling breakfast as well but come on!!! There were eight people that came in after us and no clean tables, no coffee, cold and barely enough food was left. One hour and no one was at the front desk so why wasn't someone tending to the breakfast room. I will definitely pass up this location on my...
Read moreDriving through during the winter storms Jan 7, 2025 and due to road conditions needed to find a place to stay for the night. There were three options within half a mile and this hotel had the best reviews. Upon check in there was a female night manager who was wonderful and the only reason this hotel is being given a rating above 1 star. I have three kids on the autism spectrum and booked the handicapped room with tub. The tub didn’t have a plug and the night manager gave me an aftermarket plug and some tools to remove the hair grate so that we could place the aftermarket stopper. Everything worked great and I thanked her for the resources. The tub faucet leaked and there were cracks and discoloration. The beds were extremely firm. My five year old ended up wetting the bed just before he woke up and I quickly removed the sheets and mattress pad. To my utter disbelief and disgust I discovered there are no waterproof barrier covers between the mattress and the bedding. While I was loving up my car the hotel cleaning staff entered the room and on my next trip the morning manager asked if the bed had been wet. I said yes my son had wet the bed but the mattress was dry. The maid showed me and said “wet” I felt it again and said it doesn’t feel wet. She said “it smells bad” I said the whole mattress smells bad it doesn’t have a mattress protector. I gathered the rest of my things and turned in my keys. Two days later I was charged an additional $50 dollars of the agreed upon price. No email, no explanation. I haven’t decided if Beat western will forever lose our business. It I know I won’t ever stay at this hotel again. Poor customer service and seriously beyond unsanitary to have a hotel that isn’t using waterproof mattress protection ESPECIALLY in a HANDICAP room. I am disgusted to think of how many bodily fluids are in those mattresses...
