I stayed for 10 days and I would not recommend this location. 10 days is a long enough time, in a small hotel for the staff to get accustomed to a person. I probably was one few people who stayed for an extended time. However, every time I walked in the door, I was asked if I needed help checking in. By multiple staff members, and then even multiple times by each staff member. In a small town like Williamsburg, I know I stuck out, so for them to not recognize me and every time saying 'Hey, I checked in 4 days ago and you've already asked me this' was upsetting.
However, I had friends on separate occasions come through the exact same doors and not get asked if they were checking and walked up to my room. So very unsettling.
The housekeeping was horrible! The housekeeping team only came to my room to change out my towels because I had to call down on day 4 to ask. Despite then having a sign stating on the 3rd night Housekeeping would have to come. And they did not return again for the remainder of my stay.
My trash piled up because nobody came to dump it and then eventually I went to the 1st floor, sought out housekeeping to ask them to take it, for them to tell my the dumpster was OUTSIDE! I think she could tell from the look on my face, I wasn't doing it and took my trash.
The room was messy. Coming to the room, there was a large cellophane wrapper behind the couch and a disgusting amount of crumbs in the crack of the couch that I decided I just wasn't going to sit on it. The room had dust all over the light fixtures and there were large cracks in the wall that was patched over, but never repainted. The bathroom even had scum on it that was turning pink and black??
The only daving grace was the women who tended to the breakfast service. They kind and attentive and ibreally appreciated the break from the underwhelming service elsewhere
I've been to a few IHG hotels and this is not replicative of their service. This location was just poor, in almost every...
Read moreFirst the good - breakfast was excellent. Biscuits and gravy, omelettes (pre-made but edible, the main criterion) and a pancake machine.
In a world of shoddily constructed and maintained motels, this was one of the worst.
From bad to worse here's what we experienced
Room with two beds, only one of each towel. Took two trips to the desk to get it right.
Sink stopper wouldn't stay closed. Fortunately I could reach under and knew to hand tighten the nut on the ball pivot and could finish shaving.
Drain ran slow. Took forever to run out so I could brush teeth
Thermostat was mysterious. The window unit said "use wall thermostat". Wall thermostat had a mode switch for heat/cool which worked except it didn't. I would only go from "off" to "cool" and the low that night was 15. Solution - mode switch didn't really work. You had to press the arrows; bumping the set point seemed to shift it from heat to cool. Not a good design in my opinion - makes me wonder if I'm writing the truth, but it worked that way for me.
Bathroom door doesn't latch. The bolt and strike plate are not aligned. Worse - it seems to latch a little so you'll turn the handle and it opens. But you can just pull it without turning the handle.
Finally - No Hot Water. Oh, there's a hot water knob and the water that comes out is warmer than the cold. But it's not hot. If I had to guess it's probably 105 degrees. If you need to give baby a bath you're all set. But if you come in from a long drive and hope to relax with a hot shower - it's not happening.
It was tolerable. Just not pleasant, or bracing or tingling.
It's hard to believe the owners of these buildings wouldn't have spent five minutes inside each unit making sure everything worked before taking ownership. We all need to go back to the old days where we look at the room...
Read moreWe can't say enough about the staff and the overall hospitality we were extended during a very stressful and unplanned stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Williamsburg, Ky. We were on our way home (Ohio) from Florida when our car broke down. As far as the repair work that is a different review, but here's a quick shout out to the guys at Tommy's Towing.
It quickly became clear the situation would sideline us by a day, maybe longer. We knew there was a Holiday Inn Express nearby and called to check availability. I'll try to keep this short, but I could easily elaborate more.
The manager Steven was (is) outstanding! This was apparent even before he knew our situation and once explained his concern was over-the-top and genuine. We stayed two and a half days waiting for parts and repairs and even though we booked each night individually, Steven assured us we had a room as long as we needed one. He extended our checkout times without question again and again. Steven didn't wait for us to ask questions; he looked out for us and made sure we were doing well.
This genuine hospitality was expressed by the rest of the staff as well, Hollie, Ruth, Heather, Amanda, Wanda, Chelsea, Felicia, Holly, and Jay. Thank you all! The property was clean and breakfast was free, delicious, and there was always fresh coffee! We also want to note that the folks we engaged with in Williamsburg were friendly and sympathetic to our circumstances. A young lady at AutoZone, the cook at Pizza Hut, and Angel at El Dorado to name a few.
First, last but most importantly, praise and thanksgiving to our Lord Jesus Christ who protected, encouraged, and sustained us throughout...
