Decided to book this hotel due to its close location to my home during Hurricane Dorian (we have tons of trees around our house). I booked a 2 queen bedroom with sofa bed SUITE for $199 (which I was thinking was very expensive for a Thursday night but decided I had enough stress with worrying about Hurricane and my 3 kids alone so I booked it). Unfortunately when I arrived it had been cancelled somehow even though I called to make sure our reservation was good to go the day before. Luckily, there was one room with 2 queen beds but was not a suite available. The cost was still the same! No decrease. The lady at the desk did not apologize but it was busy with people checking in, raining cats and dogs outside, I had already brought all my bags and 3 wet kids in and I didn't tave a choice to go back to my flooded neighborhood. We get up to the room and I notice the sheets on one of the beds had either blood or makeup on it and a very long, black hair. (I and my kids are blond and strawberry blonde. ) I immediately went back downstairs and passed the housekeeping area that happened to have the door open so I stuck my head in and told a lady my issue. She also did not apologize either but did send 2 ladies up quickly that changed the entire bed. The icing on the cake is that the pool was "closed for maintenance" which is the reason I chose this facility to keep the kids' mind off of things. We stayed here a few years ago and the pool was closed for the same reason. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. The walls are thin and a lot of banging heard but there are a lot of families here. If this has been a 85 dollar hotel night I wouldn't complain but over 200 dollars I feel I needed to comment. I would love to speak to a member of management...
Read moreThis is not the hotel for me. 2 years without an actual vacation and my family and I decided to pack up and come to beautiful Wilmington NC for a few days. Upon our arrival we asked if there was a possibility of an early check in but due to Easter weekend and spring break they were too busy. (Understandable) but we finally checked in around 530pm my 9 year old found a dead bug on the floor. Being a former pest control inspector I identified it to be a German roach. I gave it a minute and told my wife there will be 2 more seen before bed and I as I predicted we saw 2 more running around the beds. My wife and I went down to the front desk to inform them of this issue and the lady behind the desk was very professional but the fact that we informed her we wanted to speak to a manager and there was not one on duty was not the kind of service I am used to I work with multiple large companies that always have a manager on call at least. Then my wife and I found a hotel that was better suited for us so we packed the children and our belongings up and informed the other lady behind the desk of the same issue and told her we were departing the hotel due to this issue and requested to be comped for the 5 hours we were there. The lady then informed us to speak to the GM in the morning and that was not going to fly with my wife and I. Then this same employee decided to inform us that IF we get refunded our money it would be throughout the GM. This is not a company or a hotel I will associate with in the future and I will be calling the manager in the morning to be comped for the inconvenience of the pest...
Read moreThis older motel in Wilmington, NC has a Google rating of 3+ stars. There is a mix of 1 to 5 stars so I phoned when we were 3 hours away and apparently I was transferred to an offsite reservation service. At that time I asked a few questions about WiFi, the free breakfast, a King bed and pricing including whether there was a discount for AAA or AARP. I was told both discounts were applicable and the phone person revised the room rate. I was satisfied with the response but did not book at the time because of the variation in reviews. When my wife and I arrived, I asked to see one of the King Standard rooms. Because of the age of this building the room was very roomy, unlike some recently build motels. They also have King suites which I did not investigate. It looked and smelled clean, had a roomy bathroom, in room microwave and fridge and 4 bars of WiFi. Because we chose a room on the 2nd floor and the location is in a quiet neighborhood we could open our windows which faced the back. Additionally we were told about the three dining options a block away. AND the Hot or Cold buffet breakfast with a spacious dining area was a perfect way to start the day. There was one glitch when booking the room at the desk – I was told the discount only applied to booking on line. I clarified my previous phone quote and was finally given the quoted rate. I suspect that the new management is in transition and they are making upgrades to some features at the motel. I gave 4 stars rather than 5, because of this glitch and the wear and tear which accompanies an...
