I have waited a month to post this review because I wasn’t sure I wanted to. My intention with reviews is never to tear a business apart and is always posted with the intention of informing other people of what to expect. I rely a lot on reviews to know what I’m getting myself into and if it’s worth my hard earned money.
Pros: They allowed us to bring our cat who we had to travel with at the time and he throughly enjoyed himself. The room was HUGE the biggest room I have ever stayed in. I’m not sure what dog breed restrictions they have, but if you’re traveling with big dogs this would probably be perfect! The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need to cook and good for a long term visit.
Cons:
This is a small issue but when we first arrived it was SUPER late like 2am and when I attempted to get into our room I couldn’t open the door. After trying quite a few times I finally went down to the front desk to get assistance. Before I even got the sentence out of my mouth the person at the front desk was already saying “you have to pull the handle up” as if they have this issue all the time. I have never seen a lever handle where you have to pull up to open it instead of pushing it down. I had no problem with it except that this seems to be a reoccurring problem and seems like an installation issue (I may be wrong), so it would’ve been great to know before walking all the way to the room, fiddling with the door handle at 2 am to then have to go all the way back to the front desk. If this was the only issue I had, I would still give it 5 stars.
Once the door was open, the real issue was the state of the room. It was pretty dirty and there was furniture that quite clearly needed replacing. Considering we paid around $200 to stay here for 1 night, it’s something I would expect they would put money into replacing.
I was able to clean most visible dirt I saw with a wet paper towel, meaning it could’ve easily been cleaned off before we got there. There was a layer of dust built up on top of the refrigerator which I also spent a few minutes cleaning as well. Not really top of my list at 2am.
There were huge black streaks all along the hallway and in the morning it was clear they came from the housekeeping carts. Considering the intention of housekeeping is to keep things clean I found this a bit strange.
I don’t think any one person or department is to blame and I’m sure that with the time and resources available everyone is doing the best they can.
But for me the quality of the room was not equivalent to how much we paid. And I wouldn’t recommend staying here. If you do I wouldn’t pay more than $100 if that’s even possible.
I have attached some photos so you can decide if it seems worth the money not. Coming from a housekeeping background, I tend to be a little more critical on cleanliness so it may be something you don’t mind. My mom was with me and she had no problem with the state...
Read moreBeen stopping in Winnemucca for the past five yrs, traveling about every other month between our two homes in California and Idaho. Winnemucca is the halfway point for our two day drive. We of course travel with our pet (cat) so it is not always easy to find a pet friendly hotel that will accept a cat, even one that is extremely well behaved and doesn’t tear things up. We’re lucky in that fact and that she is extremely calm with staying in strange places. We have stayed in a couple different hotels in town, both had no problem with our pet being a cat. The first was very friendly and very decently priced, but was very run down and the beds were not the great. The last hotel/casino, where we have gone the last four years, is also very friendly, and at first decently priced, yet a bit more than the other. But the beds are definitely more comfortable and there is the casino and restaurant attached to it. It is quite a bit outdated, but clean and comfortable. However the price has gone up exponentially over the past four years from $124 to almost $200 for a basic king size pet room. After becoming an IHG member we decided to check out the Candlewood Suites, and I am so happy we did. We have stayed in both a queen and king room. I am very pleased with everything. The rooms are spacious, and modern. The bathroom is big enough that it doesn’t feel cramped with two people in it at the same time. Both Q and K have mini kitchens with a full sized refrigerator, kitchen counter and cabinets with a sink, mini two burner cooktop, microwave, cookware and dishes, dishwasher and washing and drying supplies. There is a long kitchen table/ work desk/ dresser combo that has plenty of room to eat, have your work papers and your laptop all out and not be in the way of each other. There is even an area in the lobby you can go to borrow other small appliances and other items to use in the rooms. I have never before seen offered at any other hotel. The kitchen and bathroom floor are tiled, which I like as of course having a cat requires a litter box and I, having been a hotel housekeeper many yrs ago, feel that I need to make sure that all litter tracked out of the box is cleaned up before I leave the room. I try to leave the room in the cleanest state I can. By the way they had no issues of my pet being a cat. The beds a very comfortable, which is a big plus, as I suffer with back and neck issues. The wifi was alway a problem at the last hotel, but I have not had any issues with it staying here. Overall the Candlewood Suites gets a 100% thumbs up from this relatively picky perfectionist. I cannot comment on the quality of the other amenities (gym, pool) as I have not yet taken use of them. We are pretty much ready for bed after checking in and getting dinner; but from what I have seen, they look to be very well maintained and the gym has quite the variety...
Read moreSteer clear of Room 104... I am not usually one to complain, but as soon as we walked into the room, there was an overwhelming smell of urine. It was bad. Even my two young boys noticed it right away and asked for a different room. The chair cushion and curtains had stains all over them... not just a few, but covered in some type of splatter stains. It really made me not want to touch anything in that room.
When I asked the front desk to change rooms, she said there would be a $30 uncharge for a king room... I really didn't appreciate that, to be honest. She ended up giving us a different queen room but stated they used that room as a last resort because the light is dim in the bathroom. I told her we would absolutely take that room if it didn't smell like urine.
I asked her if anyone had ever reported the smell. She sad no one has ever complained about the smell, but I'm honestly shocked about that. I encouraged her to just walk in the room, and it would instantly be obvious.
The new room we got (131) was fine, NO SMELL OF URINE! I didn't mind the dim light, and the curtains had only a couple of stains instead of being covered in them. Unfortunately there was something wrong with the bathroom sink so it took forever to drain. Also there was a dead bug in one of the folded clean towels. The dishwasher was out of order, but we weren't going to use it, so no big deal there.
Pros: The AC worked well on a hot day, so I was happy about that. The beds were clean and comfortable and there were 2 pillow options (soft and firm). There were Dove soap products, that was nice. The TV was set up to show the channel and what show was playing right on the screen and you could stream Netflix. The hotel is right off the freeway so that was convenient.
Unfortunately we won't stay here again for the price ($200), it definitely was not...
