FRAUD WARNING

Picking Peninsula Hotel was one of the easiest choices due to its reputation worldwide, however, my experience was the opposite. It’s crazy it had almost zero WIFI signal. TV couldn’t access any apps due to weak internet. We just had to use our own phone data.

The pool and gym were so small and underwhelming. Pool looks like a small pond while the gym has one bench, few dumbbells, and two treadmills. To worsen the experience, the other amenities such as sauna and steam are only accessible via reservation with usage of 20mins max each day. I was unable to use them due to timings and it’s either fully booked or there is a cutoff.

Breakfast buffet was ok. There were good choices like Banh Mi, Pho, yogurt and fruits (dragon fruit and strawberries were the star), and good egg dishes. Other several options are available but some don’t click. Ostrich Cube was so hard to chew. Meanwhile, I really liked Vietnamese coffee but they serve it cold in a regular glass pitcher on the side (what!). I asked for them to at least reheat my cup, but they refused. Waiter said I just put hot water! How come! Of course the coffee becomes diluted. The second time I asked another staff, she said the hot coffee in pot (beside the pitcher) is also Vietnamese coffee. When I tasted it, it honestly isn’t. Taster like regular instant coffee. She lied.

Afternoon tea is a good addition but the pastry is subpar. It’s otherwise acceptable since it’s free and already part of the booking.

The free footbath option felt like a scam. Honestly I would rather not offer them if I was the hotel…it’s literally putting your feet on hot water and they leave you there for 20mins. The experience felt funny and unnecessary.

The bathroom shower was flooding and going the other way, not the drain. The lower shower head is leaking.

After all, I am leaving 2 stars not 1 star because the staff were courteous and polite (despite some lying to me about the coffee) and overall cleanliness and 180 degree view of the ocean. The rooftop lounge was nice. You can really feel they are really trying. But definitely, the price you pay isn’t worth a 5-star hotel nor any other similarly-priced hotels in all of Vietnam.

As a comparison, I stayed in the nearby Sel De Mer and their amenities were topnotch: bigger gym, bigger pool, sauna and steam room use were unlimited with the same beach view…AT ALMOST HALF THE PRICE (depends on the season and promotions but surely priced less in all occasions). Similarly, La Coupole in Sapa have three times better amenities at the same price.

I have a second booking at the end of my trip at Peninsula but I honestly wouldn’t want to go back.

*EDIT: FRAUD ALERT: They accepted my cancellation for 2nd booking. But after leaving this review, I saw another review here saying this is not related to Peninsula hotel chain. I was speechless. The hotel name is quite misleading and seems intentional. If meant as a homage to “Son Tra Peninsula”, they should have named as such or just utilized another name. It’s literally piggybacking on The Peninsula brand with...

I really wanted to like this hotel, but if you prefer a higher standard of security, cleanliness, service, and amenities, and you value PROPER five-star accommodation, this is not the hotel for you.

We just checked out a few hours ago and the receptionist that was working there this morning was extremely unprofessional and rude (the chubby one with glasses, bad skin and a sour face). At checkout, she accused us of something about a beer from the mini bar not having a sticker on it and tried to charge us for a beer we never touched. We never even consumed anything from that minibar. We were furious with her for the way she assumed we were responsible and accused us and how she insisted we pay for something we didn’t do. We’re not cheap people and a measly one dollar beer means nothing to us and we would’ve gladly paid if we actually consumed it, but we didn’t. It was the principle of the matter that I found so distasteful; the accusation and attitude of this low-life lazy employee (who clearly wasn’t trained properly) was unprofessional and unmotivated to seek the truth or provide proper customer care. It’s clear they are disorganized and didn’t keep proper track of their inventory prior to us coming into the room and then blamed us for their mistake.

This was one of MANY issues with this hotel:

-the rooms don’t look like they advertise. -we caught one cook use the urinal and walk right out the bathroom door without washing his hands and then go on with food service. Disgusting hygiene training. -the afternoon tea is really pathetic. -the bathrooms are dirty and smell. location is bad, too far from anything interesting. -the towels are very old and ratty with the seams coming apart. And have another hotels logo on them (Tokyo hotel?) I don’t know what that’s about but it’s gross. -the linens in the bedsheets smell clean but had permanent stains and on them. -the housekeeping doesn’t change any of the sheets unless you ask and when you do they have a bad attitude about it and then change the sheets to yet another set of stained sheet. (We just gave up complaining at this point)

Also, I had to request cleaning to be done while we were in the room because I discovered too late that this hotel had customers leave reviews about THEFT or attempted theft in the hotel rooms. So I just felt paranoid about leaving things in the room.

BEWARE! We will be sure to monitor all our cards very closely for fraud or identify theft after reading some of the bad reviews on this hotel and experiencing the shady attitude of the staff. I only wish I read the bad reviews sooner, I would’ve never book with this scam hotel.

Honestly, I don’t know how they call themselves a five star hotel, it’s a cheap scam hotel who have a system of ripping off...

I really enjoyed my experience at the Peninsula especially for the price, but there are a few things to be aware of.

To start with the positives, the view from the room and from the 27th floor infinity pool is absolutely incredible. On one side you have the gorgeous beach and on the other is the Da Nang skyline. You will rarely see a more beautiful sight when the sun is setting over the city.

The rooms are fresh and modern with a fantastic bathroom including a rain shower and stand-alone tub. The beds are comfortable and the housekeeping is professional. The staff, as in most places in Vietnam, is very kind and accommodating and will provide you with any help you need.

The value is unbeatable with an ocean view room at about $120 USD/night. Something like this elsewhere could be upwards of $700/night. The location directly on the beach is impeccable, you only cross one small road and you’re right there.

Now let me get into some things to be wary of while you’re considering a stay here. Firstly the buffet for breakfast and afternoon tea is frankly not good. The buffet is expansive but the food is low quality and certainly sitting out for too long. The chocolate croissants were really the only nice option and even those were gone after the first day. It’s nice that food is included but don’t expect anything great.

Be careful about doing laundry as the prices are exorbitant. For what I consider to be a relatively small load, it cost me a little over 50 USD. In general, I find the prices on a la carte items across all categories to be inflated, but that is to be expected in a location such as this.

Overall, I consider the Peninsula to be an inexperienced owner’s attempt at replicating true luxury. It is a luxurious experience, but the little details reveal that it is an immature idea of luxury. However, for the price, it is very difficult to complain about that. If you thought this was a real Peninsula, avoid that line of thinking. They stole the Peninsula logo from the real line of hotels which are far more professional and luxurious.

That being said, the Peninsula is still a fantastic experience and a wonderful way to experience Da Nang in style. The staff is great, the views are impeccable, and the overall feel of the hotel is very nice. Despite a few drawbacks, I can definitely recommend the Peninsula to anyone who is looking in this...

It’s true that many hotels in Vietnam seem to have inflated reviews or perhaps many travelers are simply unfamiliar with what a true 5-star hotel should be. I’ve stayed in several genuine 5-star properties, and unfortunately, this has been the most disappointing “5-star” experience so far. I’m not sure if Vietnam uses a different standard for hotel ratings. A real 5-star hotel offers personalized, detail-oriented service. Then again, considering how affordable the rate was, maybe I shouldn’t expect much. To be fair, our stay was still comfortable. I slept well, and both check-in and check-out were smooth. Room: I booked the Ocean View Twin Room (2503). The room had a “luxury feel,” and I appreciated the custom Peninsula branding on amenities, but it seems like the hotel focused more on visuals and branding rather than functionality. Bathroom: I didn’t like the layout of the toilet and shower. After showering, water goes everywhere, very “home bathroom” style. There’s a bath mat, but overall it’s not pleasant. In proper 5-star hotels, the bathroom design prevents this from happening. Bathrobes: The robes were shockingly small practically child-sized. Even my mother, who has a petite Vietnamese frame, couldn’t fit into them. The quality also didn’t feel 5-star at all. The rest of the room was fine—quite basic, and there was no espresso machine, but again, for the price, I didn’t expect much. Service: This is the first “5-star” hotel I’ve encountered with no onsite clinic or medical support. I wasn’t feeling well and asked for paracetamol something most 5-star hotels are able to provide or assist with. They simply said they didn’t have any. A proper response should have been something like: “We’re not able to dispense medication directly, but we can send someone to the pharmacy or contact our doctor for you.” Other than that, the staff were polite and courteous. I have no problem with them at all. And as a business owner myself, I’m not the type to bring a business down unfairly. However, please do not label yourself as a 5-star hotel if you cannot deliver a 5-star experience. A quick search on what defines a 5-star standard would make this clear.

We stayed in a Deluxe Ocean View Room, but the view was slightly obstructed by the building's design. The room was medium-sized, lacking a luggage rack, ironing board, and sufficient cupboard space. It's also located a bit far from the lively area of My Khe Beach. Despite being advertised as a 5-star hotel, the room amenities felt basic, with the exception of the Japanese-style washlet commode. Housekeeping was average—dust was visible on the side tables and windows, and they didn’t consistently refill the shower gel, requiring reminders. The breakfast mostly consisted of Korean and Vietnamese dishes with limited continental options, and the menu was repetitive throughout our stay. On a positive note, the afternoon tea was enjoyable, and the restaurant bar on the top floor offered stunning views. However, I would advise against using the hotel's taxi service or money exchange, as both were overpriced. There are many other properties along the same stretch, so it’s worth comparing options before making a decision. On our checkout day, Da Nang was hit by heavy rain and a storm warning. We had a flight to catch from Hanoi for an international connection, but our domestic Vietjet flight was indefinitely delayed (delay is only for Vietjet, which I doubt is a scam). I had to go to the airport early in the morning to cancel the Vietjet flight and purchase new tickets with Vietnam Airlines to ensure we made our connection. This process took longer than expected, so I requested a late checkout for one of our two rooms. However, despite explaining our situation, the hotel insisted we check out by 1 PM, forcing my family to leave the rooms while I was still at the airport. Their lack of understanding and flexibility was disappointing. Next time we visit Da Nang, we will be looking for other accommodation options.
