I have lived in Hanoi for six years now and never visited Ninh Binh until this past weekend. My family (wife and two young children) stayed at the Tuan Ngoc hotel along with a few other families for a group weekend. Overall, we had a great time. ||||Perhaps the best part of Tam Ngoc hotel is the owner. We didn't catch her name (we just called her Chi, which means "older sister"), but she was right there to help us with everything we needed. She let us use the eating area to host a birthday party for one of the children and she made us feel like she was happy to do it (I'm sure we gave her a little extra work than normal). She was also very responsive and helped us find some locations throughout town.||||The hotel is clean and the rooms were pretty spacious. It has a homely feel to it: all of the guests just kind of wander around, have a coffee or beer at the bar, swim in the pool, play some pool, or just walk around town. For me (a school administrator), it was the perfect environment for me to slow down and relax. Our room did not have a television, but this added to the charm of the place.||||The hotel is within walking distance of the main part of town. The locals are pretty nice, but some of them will raise prices for foreigners: if you have not spent enough time in Vietnam, you will probably overpay in some areas. But, I wasn't given a price that was outright robbery. There were some touristy restaurants, but we did not try any of them. There is a restaurant in front of the hotel called "Chookies" that I hope to try next time we are in town. ||||Overall, I think you will have a great time at Tuan Ngoc Hotel. To the owner (if you're reading this): we will back and we look forward to...
Read moreHorrific experience, she completely conned us on the day ‘tour’ where we were unceremoniously chucked out of the car regularly, with no instructions, had no time for lunch, got dropped off at the boat tour at the busiest time of the day where we had to queue for over an hour (this is low season and we’d happily have gone at a different time had they advised us). Additionally it didn’t even go to all places and the driver after promising he would wait in a certain location left us. ||||By far the worst bit was the ‘tourist class’ bus we paid for to the airport, which didn’t arrive and then we got chucked on a local bus which stopped all the time and then chucked us off in the middle of nowhere and physically hurt my mum (she was literally crying after that). ||||At the beginning we felt forced into paying for an ‘upgraded room’ but never actually got to see the room we paid for, the beds in these rooms were hard with plastic coverings and it was above the bar and kitchen so pretty noisy. ||||Overall, the owner may be all smiles but felt like a con woman to me. I’d advise against going here but particularly against booking any tours or...
