We stayed at Eco Hills for five days—two in the dorm and three in a private bungalow.
The homestay is beautifully located on top of a hill. Be prepared for a bit of a climb to get there! It’s not accessible by car, so you’ll need to carry your stuff yourself for the last 150 meters—but the view over the valley is well worth it. The village of Ta Van is also charming, with many small restaurants. We recommend Salem Homestay around the corner for great, reasonably priced food.
From the moment we arrived at EcoHills we felt warmly welcomed by the entire host family. They were incredibly kind and genuinely cared about our stay. Staying in the same house as them made the experience feel cozy and homey, though the dorm is open without a door, so it can be noisy at times—especially with young kids around.
The accommodation was one of the cleanest and most beautiful we’ve stayed in. Designed in a seemingly traditional style, the dorm is on an open second floor with mattresses on the ground and simple curtains for privacy. Despite its simplicity, it felt surprisingly cozy and comfortable, with soft bedding, silky duvets, and stunning mountain views—if you were lucky enough to get your own window! The only downside is that there’s just one bathroom for the entire dorm.
Our private bungalow was a dream. The best part was the huge panoramic window overlooking the mountains and rice fields on a sunny day. The bungalow itself was small but had a comfy bed with an amazing heated blanket—essential on cold nights.
Eco Hills is a lovely place, but we found the free breakfast disappointing—you only had two options, and both were rather small and underwhelming: instant noodles with a fried egg or a small, readymade crepe. Bungalow guests got an extra option, which felt a bit odd. The rest of the menu was good but pricey, though portions were generous. You could refill your water bottle for a small fee (5k), but the filtering machine was very slow.
What we’ll remember most is the kindness of the host family and the serene beauty of this place—especially in...
Read moreThe best homestay! This is where you want to come if you want an authentic Sapa experience. I had the most incredible stay here. It is so relaxing and tranquil. The views are amazing and the rooms are wonderful with great views. The WiFi also works great. Thuy and his family are so beyond friendly and welcoming and there to help with anything you need. They make you feel like family. The homemade breakfasts and dinners I had were all very delicious and there was a good variety.
The location is great! I loved staying in Ta Van. It is a perfect area with beautiful rice fields all around and it isn’t touristy but still has some great restaurants, convenience stores and a pharmacy nearby. The best part is where the homestay is situated. I wasn’t sure what area was best, but after staying here I know I chose the right spot. You are in the middle of other great villages, so you can go trekking to the right or left villages to see some more amazing views.
I have been traveling for a year and a half and this is one place that will hold a special place for me. Honestly no words can describe what a wonderful experience and stay I had at Eco Hills, you need to come and experience it yourself. You won’t regret it. I was so sad to leave.
Thank you Thuy and...
Read moreWe had a great time at Eco Hills! Host Thuy and his wife went out if their way to give us a perfect stay. We felt very much at home and were treated like friends from the first moment.
Thuy speaks very good English so the communication was easy. He organized everything for us (taxis, a hiking guide, laundry, a motorcycle for the day, bus tickets back to Hanoi) and having a local expert for these things was a big advantage! Everything went perfectly.
The rooms were clean and cozy and have everything you need for a short stay. What stands out is the great view over the village and the green valley which you can enjoy from the small balkony or directly from your bed through a big window. Waking up to this was a big highlight for us!
On both days we had breakfast and dinner at the homestay which are cooked freshly by Thuy's wife. There is a long menu to choose from, so everyone should be able to find something. We liked everything we tried.
Overall we had a wonderful experience und would 100% recommend Eco Hills if you want to stay in...
