I wouldn't call it a shopping "experience," more like an endurance test. Wandering the isles of Hawthorne Garage felt like navigating a minefield of overpriced disappointment, sprinkled with landmines of condescending sighs and unhelpful shrugs from some employees.
Let's start with the staff. Training seems like a whisper on the wind here. Asking a simple question about weighing out 100g of sundries tomatoes, felt like requesting the Rosetta Stone from someone who just discovered fire. It's like they're hired for their ability to scoff in a variety of octaves.
Speaking of variety, the only thing diverse at the garage is the ways they manage to overcharge you. Prices soar like helium balloons filled with dreams of financial freedom, only to pop and leave you clutching an overpriced loaf of artisanal air. Seriously, I've seen diamonds cheaper than some of their kale chips.
And don't even get me started on the coffee. Calling it "artisanal" feels like an insult to actual artisans. On bad days I'm pretty sure I've tasted dishwater with more depth and complexity. It's like they roast the beans in a passive-aggressive oven fueled by customer complaints.
Look, I'm not a gourmet snob. I appreciate a good coffee and a fair price. But this cafe is neither. It's a monument to overpriced mediocrity, staffed by people who seem perpetually annoyed by the very presence of customers.
If you're looking for a welcoming experience, fair prices, and anything resembling competent service, steer clear of the hawthorne Garage. Your taste buds, your wallet, and your sanity will thank you.
For those seeking true nirvana, look elsewhere. There are countless fantastic cafes and grocers out there who actually value their customers, know their products, and can brew a latte that doesn't taste like disappointment served lukewarm. Do your research, support the good ones, and leave the Hawthorne Garage to marinate in its own overinflated sense of importance.
With all this said there are some friendly staff who don't deserve to be tainted with the same brush, it's just obvious that it has of late been on a slippery slope in the wrong direction. It has alot to do with the...
Read moreI am always happy to go to the Garage & before Covid19, it was 3-4 times a week to either have lunch, coffee, meet friends shop or just hang out. The quality of the produce is excellent plus specialty items that can be hard to find are right there. The staff are very friendly & super helpful, they show they care. If you are not happy with something, they will do their utmost best to fix it. Just speak to them as you would like to be spoken to & explain your problem. I have had vouchers given to me for items that I wasn’t happy about. Of course you pay a little more for the quality so if you want cheap, go to Coles or Woolworths but don’t complain about the cost or service, just go elsewhere, you are in a premium suburb. Apart from the shopping experience, I have another reason to sing their praises....on the day of no sitting to have your coffee, I was dehydrated & fell over at Corner. As soon as that happened, Christian phoned for the paramedics and staff came running to my aid with chair, water and tissues. Luckily there was a nurse walking into the Garage with her husband who cleaned me up and was very helpful. Christian, two of his staff and the nurse stayed with me until the paramedics took me to hospital. They were all so amazing & I am forever grateful for their assistance. As if their caring & help wasn’t enough, when my daughter went there the next day to get my groceries that I was heading there for when I fell, Christian wouldn’t let her pay for anything....how’s that for customer care? Once my knee is better, I’ll be heading back there for my needs & my 1/4 strength flat white on almond milk!!! Forgot to mention that they open at 6am & close at 8pm, so very handy. Thank you Christian & all your lovely staff for the awesome caring and service you give me every time I’m there plus many of you know me by facial recognition or by my name which makes you all super special to me. Love all of...
Read moreIt's ok .I has very good products it's way too expensive for the average person including me . But I don't go there more than once a couple years and they have a place in affluent suburbs and they are great retailers. Pity they don't put their efforts into bringing wholesome food to the poor in the millions struggling to feed themselves and use their obvious skills in retail and make a difference to a million people's lives . They'd make a gazillion too with the skills they have and a ten dollar a week profit from a million strugglers out there is still 500 million a year Lets hope they realize their skills ability and spread down the line and not across ot like they have done inner city I originally have given 3 stars for their lack of social awareness and 10 stars if they wake up and get their super super abilities to add to the lives of struggling Australia. Perhaps they could be the one to make a contribution and become wealthy in the process . They are super retailers let's pray they are super people so us battlers can enjoy their incredible buying abilities dumbed down but still luxury in the sense of the word relevant to...
