Fish Boy Hawthorne — Restaurant in Brisbane City

Came with family and friends from Sydney for a holiday at Gold Coast. My brother looked online for a restaurant in Hawthorn after reaching by a ferry and Fish Boy was the first one that caught his eye. Owner, Nick, made sure everyone was happy with what they got, (despite the variety of food restrictions and preferences our 12 people group have!) Customer service was great and everyone loved their meals. Best fish and chips we've had anywhere + great vegetarian options on the menu. We wish we could've tried the gelato and churros from their dessert section but we were too stuffed from the generous portions. Highly recommend the fish box and halloumi burger for vegetarians. As well as the beautifuly fresh Greek and seafood salad. This place is super affordable and will make sure you're fully satisfied with your food. I'd also like to mention they have both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a clean toilet space outside the restaurant room for your comfort. It must be mentioned that we did order through UberEats but even so for what we got, it’s still unbelievable. The temperature was more on the part of Uber than anything else, but the portion size was completely in their control. We spent a little over $112 for just the food, for TWO people… and it was so unfulfilling that we had to order more food elsewhere, totalling far more than it should have been for just a lazy dinner. The flavours for taste might have even made up for it but they were just so, off.

I understand you can argue price inflation as it’s on Uber and for it to be profitable “they have to be different” etc, but in this case it went just too far in the wrong direction to even remotely justify that (especially for seafood which is purchased in either wholesale or bulk quantities).

Can’t comment on eat-in but the takeaway was enough that we won’t be trying it. To be completely honest, if the response to our feedback via UberEats wasn’t so belligerent rather than humbling, I probably wouldn’t even be posting...

Exceptional Service and Kindness at Fish Boy!

Yesterday, I found myself in an incredibly stressful situation when I accidentally locked my sausage dog, Sonnie, in the car due to an electronics malfunction. It was an extremely hot day, and I was panicked while waiting for roadside assistance. Thankfully, the owner of Fish Boy came to my rescue!

Without hesitation, they brought out buckets of water and containers to help block the sun from the windows, making sure Sonnie stayed safe and comfortable until help arrived. It could have been a much worse situation, but the kindness and care they showed made all the difference.

It's so rare to find such genuine people, and I can't wait to return and support this fantastic business. Their fresh seafood and gelato are already on my list, but after this experience, they’ve gained a lifelong customer. Thank you, Fish Boy, for going above and beyond!
