I arrived at Top Stroke around 12 pm with my NDIS client and stepson. Upon approaching the counter, the staff member serving us seemed noticeably blunt and unfriendly in her manner. She told me I needed to book as they were not taking walk-ins due to being busy. I noticed there were three clubs available on the wall and explained I only needed two, but she repeated that even if I booked online, the wait would still be around 45 minutes. I responded that this was fine as we could have something to eat while we waited, to which she told me food wasn’t served “down here” (despite sandwiches being on display) and that food was only available upstairs with the chef. (Fair enough)
Although her tone was cold, I stayed polite smiled and thanked her before leaving the counter. She did not acknowledge me and instead greeted the next customer with a smile. I attempted to book online but couldn’t as no times were displayed. Not wanting to return to the counter after the poor interaction, I instead went into the main building and spoke with the manager, who greeted me warmly. After explaining what had happened, he was surprised by the information I had been given as he confirmed it was incorrect (regarding walk ins) He kindly accompanied us back downstairs, and I noticed the staff member looked surprised when she saw him. Her demeanor immediately changed to being much friendlier once he was present, and he made sure we were looked after straight away.
While the kids enjoyed their game, I reflected on the experience and wondered why the staff member treated us so differently. My client is very shy and quiet, and my stepson was simply chatting about football with me. We weren’t loud or disruptive, as Im an introvert and do not like drawing attention. The only thing that stood out to me was that my client and I were the only people with dark brown skin present. While the overall atmosphere at the venue was welcoming and family-friendly with many patrons smiling back when we smiled at them, the interaction at the counter made us feel singled out and unwelcome.
Despite this, I still give Top Stroke five stars thanks to the professionalism of the manager and the enjoyment we had once settled in. The positive energy of the other patrons also contributed to a great experience. I will recommend Top Stroke to colleagues, family and friends as it still a great place to enjoy...
Read moreWe went there for our work Xmas party and I have to say this is probably the best mini golf in Brisbane. It was a well designed mini golf course, that had plenty of space from each hole. We were lucky enough for the team to accomodate us with a table of 15 even though they had the night market on and was quite busy. Please give our thanks to Renee from marketing for accomodating our group and making sure we had a table set aside for us. We also would like to thank Kelly from Kiosk for an amazing night who looked after us and gave us plenty of laughter during the night. My team works in hospo so we know what it’s like working in this industry. I really hope management is looking after their great staff cause it’s very hard to find good staff these days because our industry being full of bad customers. Thanks again...
Read moreMy daughter and I enjoyed a round of mini golf at the Oxley Golf Club’s new Topstroke Mini Golf facility today. We booked our tickets online and on arrival checked in with a delightful young man and then went straight on to play (No waiting to start). The holes were longer and more technical than the standard mini golf we have been used to but the course was great and the although our scores were not the best, we will return and try to better our score next time. The food and drinks after the round were good and enjoyed for lunch. Thank you Oxley Golf...
