I have been a member at Bike Bar for quite a while now and there is 5 reasons why I stay (and why my friends think I secretly work on their marketing team) :
The Instructors ! I love that each instructor is so different (in terms of taste in music and also style of class and level of difficulty ) this enables me to keep things spicy with my workout routine. I usually book with 3 different instructors in the week. I absolutely love the energy they bring and the motivational words- nothing like a “go Jazzey “ to get your legs pedalling a little bit faster ( and of course it makes the class feel more personal) It’s so clear this business truly values community. I can’t count the number of times I have personally experienced Bike Bar’s efforts to create community and good culture. Whether it has been a comment on Instagram, being handed a peice of cake after class to celebrate someone’s bday/milestone, free poke bowl after class, free cold brew after class, I have been given numerous passes to bring a friend for free. Yes this is clever marketing but it also always comes from a genuine place and everything is always done in the members best interest. Like most people, I am a busy gal and I often get ready for work in the Bike Bar change rooms. The “extra touches” in the change rooms make a big difference in my opinion and don’t go unnoticed ! ( natural body wash/ hair products , dry shampoo, bobby pins, hair ties, blow dryers and straighteners, deodorant, dry shampoo and fluffy towels that have definitely been washed with a really nice natural washing detergent (they smell like beautiful essential oils) ). The support staff. They make a big effort to remember everyone’s name and shoe size. Who doesn’t love that , it makes people feel special. Extra special mention to Courtney who is incredibly friendly and sweet. These girls are the first people you see and talk to when you get to bike bar and they always ask me how my day has been going etc and make me feel welcome. I just love the endorphins ! Serious overshare but I cried in my first 4 classes. True story - and I think i just hadn’t felt that good in a long time and it overwhelmed me. Nothing compares to the feeling of riding to the beat to a great song , in the dark , being hyped up by the instructor - it doesn’t sound like anything crazy but you don’t know until you know. The one thing better than that feeling is when you have built your fitness to the point that you can ride like that for the whole class!! It happens for me sometimes but I still have so more fitness to build before it becomes a regular thing.
If you are thinking of giving it a go, I highly recommend trying a class ! Everyone that I have brought with me to classes...
Read moreI’ve been a member of Bike bar for about 8 months now and would like to leave an honest feedback.
At first, Bike bar was overwhelming and fun and I went 3 times a week at the Claremont studio. The studio is very clean and has amazing and modern facilities.
Unfortunately, it got repetitive very quickly. Same playlists were used for some time and I started to look for a change. The Claremont studio focuses on spin classes only and I wish they’d offer toning or yoga classes to mix it up. I do understand they have limited space available, however the Applecross studio is too far for a quick workout from the Claremont area. A few other things I noticed while working out; sometimes classes start about 3-5 minutes late, which means you get a 35-37 minute spin workout (- stretching) instead of 40 minutes. All of the instructors are amazing and try to push you to your limits. Most of the support staff is nice (some are just okay and it feels a bit cliquishly) however I noticed that often the support staff have already reserved their bikes (front row middle bikes) before the class so those are already occupied and unable to be used. The areas facing the two doors are quite dark as the podium LED lights are not bright enough to lighten up the room in the corners. The early morning class requires wearing headphones and I found them a bit smelly. I have also experienced some issues with the bikes - often the shoes will click out off the pedal mid fast spin so the pedal crashed into my calf leaving me bruised. It’s then quite hard to click back in as it’s so dark.
Unfortunately, I had to cancel my membership as it can’t offer me what I need at $70 for three spin...
Read moreUp until July this year, my aerobic exercise track record was sitting at ZERO. For 34 years (my entire life) I absolutely counted myself as one of those people who was never going to enjoy working out. I dabbled in pilates, wasted gym memberships & walk around the suburb with my dog - but never for one second thought I was the type to drag myself out of bed at 5:30am to work out…. This all changed after I was dragged to Bike Bar for the first time. I actually like it. I honestly jump out of bed when my alarm sounds in the morning and adore my three spin mornings every week. It’s the best workout, an incredible way to start to the day - I’ve found the missing piece to my routine and am so glad I did! If you’re on the fence about trying it, take it from me - a reformed intense exercise-phobic who now sometimes even goes to class on a Saturday morning to start the weekend right. It’s fun. Thanks so much to the BB team for creating an environment that welcomes all fitness levels and continues to motivate me to hop out of bed to work out....
