$12 crispy pork belly banh mi. Stale roll! Quite a dense bread. Would have been great this morning, but at 12:30pm it’s a bit of a disappointment. Apparently baked in Hawthorn every morning. Very nice pork. Soft and moist, with super crunchy crackling. Good flavours in the pickled carrot and daikon. A touch of raw onion. I thought I saw chilli but didn’t taste it. Needs the mayo because unusually there seems to be no hoisin involved. Means you can really taste the pork itself - which is very meaty and fatty but not all that nice as a solo flavour, I’d have to say, mainly just a little salty. Great textures though. $11 Cold cuts is nicer. Lovely light freshness and mayo/pate creaminess offsets the bread. Really good flavour balance. Did they forget the chilli? Yes but still yummy. Pate good. With fresh bread and/or a quick reviving toast and this could have been fabulous. Definitely prefer the cold cuts. Glad I didn’t go the $15 roast duck. Overall a good and interesting experience, but pretty sure the accolades are to be reserved for a larger bakery franchise site, not this little hole in the wall. Will have to try South Yarra sometime.

I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this time I really have to speak up. I’ve been a loyal customer at Master Roll Vietnam in Carnegie for two years. About six months ago, I noticed the quality of their banh mi had declined — the bread was tough, and the ingredients didn’t taste fresh. I didn’t comment at the time, thinking it might’ve been a one-off issue since I went around 5:45 PM, close to closing. Today, I finally gave it another try and went early at 11 AM, hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, it was even more disappointing. The bread was hard as a rock, the crispy tofu wasn’t crispy or fragrant, and everything tasted stale. It was so dry and tough that I had to sip water with each bite just to get it down. To make it worse, the price had increased from $11 to $12 — and honestly, the quality doesn’t match the cost at all. It felt like a complete waste of money. I couldn’t even finish it. Really disappointed.

Used to come here a lot. Now days customer service absolutely poor. Not coming back again. This young boy, slowest banh mi maker i have ever seen. Took his time, i was the only customer and no food delivery orders. I stood there for 10 mins for a banh mi lol. Assembling a sandwich isnt that hard. Chicken banh mi, the bread is definitely not fresh and chicken was dry, pretty sure chicken sat in bain marie too long. Revisit: The bread was not crispy as all, the roast chicken was tender. The crispy roast pork was dry and hard. Combination in the banh mi is good, but I think it needs some quality control on the products because it seems to be different every time visiting. Customer service much better than my last experience. Price affordable but some places even more cheaper with better quality.

These Vietnamese ladies absolutely make the best banh mi of any nearby suburb, no doubt, no question, 100%. Unfortunately it seems they've also brought their health standards from Vietnam, and I literally just watched while one worker scrubbed a sink and wiped down the counters with a dirty wet rag while in gloves, before making food and directly handling literally every ingredient with the exact same latex gloves that she was just using to pull things out of the drain.

Absolutely disgusting, girls. I've seen that same employee do a couple of other dodgy things previously but shrugged it off - hey, she's older, her English isn't great, maybe she's a little lazy, whatever. But THIS is why you don't ignore these things. If you see gross stuff, think about the gross things that happen when you CAN'T see it. If you're selling food I literally watched you make with grey slimey gloves, how can I possibly believe you throw out food that falls on the ground? How can I possibly believe you wash your utensils properly? You're offloading goods, unloading boxes, cleaning and making food with the same pair of disposable latex gloves on!

A few weeks ago some food fell in the front window and sat there visible to the public for days until it went mouldy and they finally found it and removed it. Come to think of it, that was a pretty obvious red flag, too.

God bless you, Master Roll Carnegie, but I'm most certainly emailing a complaint to the Department of Health the moment I finish this review. Fix your standards and take some pride...

Thanks for your reply. It would be great if you can listen to your customer and see things from customers’ perspectives instead of denying. I thought you were a nice new local food vendor since you replied to comments and advertised around different fb groups so thought you would accept feedback and you can do better.

Yes the issue was with the biopak cup. It is a cup for hot drinks not cold drinks. The cup you have chosen was smaller than a small size coffee that we can get from a local coffee shop, which I believe have also used great coffee beans. There is biopak cup for cold drinks that you can use and it is also easier to carry.

Also please do read the second part of the comment about the takeaway bag thanks.

——————- Packaging could be improved. The coffee was in a tiny coffee cup. Pricey given the size.

The paper carrying bag was a bit fragile and we felt like it will break any time when we carried the pho home. Also it was a bit oily so it would be great to improve the packaging.

Happy go come again and give a better rating if...
