Fish Plus - Fish and Chips — Local services in Melbourne

The chips, potato cakes and chiko rolls here are generally excellent. Though the chip portions are VERY small and the dim sims are tiny...you could say miniature versions with a full price. We overlooked the negatives of the tiny portions, because the quality was good. The week before, the standard of the chips slipped and they seemed overcooked. But everything else was fine. This last time, not only were the chips overcooked, but the potato cake was rock solid akin to cardboard. I rang up (first time ever) and mentioned that the chips were overcooked and the potato cake seemed reheated or very badly overcooked. The lady at the other end of the line answered "no, no, NO! Our chips fresh". I tried to explain that sadly, the chips and potato cake seemed like reheats. There was no other rational explanation. A simple "we are sorry, it will be better next time" would be enough. We don't expect anything for free, as we understand how hard it is to run a small business. Incredibly, no apology was forth coming. She shrieked "DON'T COME BACK AGAIN!". We respect your wish, we will not be returning. A pity, as simple acknowledgement would have been more than enough....

Tonight we ordered from Fish Plus for the first time. We ordered a flake, a gluten free grilled flake, a gluten free grilled blue grenadier, 3 potato cakes, and a small chips.

All of the fried battered food was really tasty and the potato cakes were nice and thick!

However Fish Plus gets a 3 star rating due to the grilled fish.

It was overcooked and rubbery and tough. My grilled flake was the same texture as a chicken tenderloin which means it was definitely over cooked and it was inedible. Unfortunately had to throw it in the bin.

If you choose to eat here, I would stick to ordering their battered options. I will be back for the...

Why is it so hard to find a decent F&C shop around here? Tried this place out as the one closest to us isn't great but this was so much worse. Pretty sure the burger had been cooked a week ago and chucked in the microwave for a quick reheat. The pattie was SO dry and horrible, there was no sauce and the bun was stale. The chips were definitely pre cooked and then refryed because they were oil soaked and chewy, also a stingey portion for the price. We will continue to drive the extra 10 mins to Anna's F&C in hawthorn (the best!!) and definitely won't be back...
