This is a small theater, but has a Vmax cinema and perhaps the cleanest restrooms I’ve ever seen in a movie theater. It may be that the theater is still only a few months old, but I was shocked to see how clean they were.
Frustrating things about Event Cinema Smithfield: -No Gold Class
-WAY too many ads including funeral home ad at children’s movie. As a result, movie started 32mins after advertised start time.
-Tickets are picked up and sold from concession stand, so it’s slow.
-The seating area in Vmax feels like it is a cheap plywood structure as it isn’t properly insulated. The ceiling is well insulated.
-Volume is too high for the size of the rooms. You can hear other movies from neighbouring theaters.
Advice to management: I won a prize moments before the ads began playing before the movie. While I’m grateful for the gift card, it was one of the most anticlimactic prizes I have ever won.
I felt the promotional potential of this prize was lost. You had everyone’s attention at that moment and had an opportunity to promote the theater, but drew a number in private and announced me as the winner. Next time, milk it! Have some showmanship!
Here’s a basic script for the next time you’re have a prize to give away: “Hey everybody welcome to Event Cinemas Smithfield! Before we begin the film we have a prize to celebrate [insert explanation for prize]. I hope you’re all excited to see [insert movie] in our brand new VMax theater! You may notice the speakers on the ceiling. They’re there because this theater was specially designed with Dolby Atmos, the most modern movie theater sound experience, in mind. Be sure to check out the concession stand before the movie begins where we have beer and wine available as well as all your favorite movie snacks.
It’s time for the draw for [insert descriptions prize]! This prize comes from [introduce sponsor].
[draw the winner ]
Congratulations! Come on down and get your prize. For those that didn’t win, be sure to take a selfie with the movie poster on your way out and post it to our Facebook page for a chance to win [insert second prize].
[Take a picture with the winner and their prize and post it to Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter]
We hope you enjoy the show! (This is easy stuff to promote, just put in some...
Read moreThe air conditioner was not turned on when we went to see a movie yesterday afternoon which is crazy considering it’s summer in Cairns. My mother eventually left the theatre during the film to ask if we could have it turned on as it was very uncomfortable, the man working there said that the air conditioner hasn’t been working for a month, but as an apology we could have our tickets reimbursed. On our way out my mother went to the desk to get our tickets refunded however the woman told her to that they would not be refunding the ticket as the air conditioner is old (????). When mum pointed out that the man had offered to refund earlier the man told her that he never said that and put mum in an incredibly awkward position.. We eventually walked out stunned at how we had been treated, vowing never to come back. As a returning local who now lives in Brisbane I’m incredibly disappointed in the service that we received. This is a brand new cinema and tickets are double what I pay in Brisbane, the fact that the cinema was hot and the customer service is so poor makes me feel incredibly sorry for the locals who assume this is...
Read moreJust had my first cinema trip with my rollator and using a companion card and the whole experience was so smooth and I was treated so kindly. I was so anxious about my rollator being an issue in the cinema space wise but I'm cinema 3 there is a space by the pins Infront of row E that's perfect to park your aid and I was able to sit in the row behind it which let me feel safe knowing I could see my rollator and it wouldn't get damaged etc.
There was 0 issue with me using my companion card and I was treated like any other customer. I was even able to use it with the half price Tuesday cinebuzz deal!
It was also quiet and very very clean, including the bathrooms which were also very accessible.
All in all an awesome experience for my first trip to this cinema and my first time at the movies with a mobility aid. Would highly recommend to any other disabled folks who are worried about using a...
