We have been frequent customers of the Smithfield Tavern for years and after returning there this week after some 6 to 8 months clearly it’s appear to have changed hands/management or at least changed menus but neither of which were for the better.
I understand the businesses change hands/management and menus change in restaurants and pubs but unfortunately in both cases neither of these appear to have been for the better since we were there last.
We weren’t greeted at all when we came through the door and checked ourselves in and assumed which Table was ours given large booking.
The waitress who was on did not have a high standard or level of English was also quite rude and abrupt where as the gentleman who was in charge of the dining room (as was the case when we were there last) showed a constantly positive attitude and was the highlight of our visit.
5 out of 9 meals were absolutely fine but the four schnitzel dishes were all very disappointing and all well over cooked and well undersize to what we were used to on previous visits.
The sticky date puddings weren’t even hot and were clearly from frozen and I could’ve found better at hungry Jacks and McDonald’s.
I was asked how I see was and I was honest and told them it was very disappointing and nothing was done so ourselves and anybody that we know will not be...

Read moreI've been a regular patron of the 'Smithy' for many years and felt moved to jot a quick review. As soon as you arrive you are warmly greeted with a smile. The staff turnover is pretty low and they usually remember me by name. For starters, they make great coffee, and being a self-confessed coffee snob, I'm difficult to impress. They have Texas hold'em poker on a Saturday afternoon, which is one of the reasons I am there every week. I play poker at many pubs and usually dine during the break. I ordered the reasonably priced rump and was suitably impressed. Chips were crispy and so was the fresh salad. Last week I had the special lamb chops, which were delightful! The service is always friendly and accommodating, nothing seems to be too much trouble....you know, the way hospitality should be, but rarely ever is. The atmosphere, whilst not overly plush, provides a relaxed and clean pub vibe. Did well at the poker game, but win, lose or draw, it's always a great time at the Smithy! Thanks again to Nicko and his...
