In Toowoomba on a cold day. After reading reviews I was really looking forward to trying the pies. Unfortunately arrived late at 1.40 but still a reasonable variety of pies to choose from. My husband likes a chunky beef pie. He had to settle for 1 with cheese which he said was ok. I don’t like beef pies & always opt for a meat pastie or chicken pie. No pasties but plain chicken or chicken & mushroom. I chose the plain. We also got 2 sausage rolls. Also ok. No where to sit & eat so went to a local park. Couldn’t wait to bite into the warm pie! Oh no! What is that smoky taste? I noticed some little dark spots amongst the small amount of chicken. Thought I may have been given chicken & mushroom. Nope. Tiny bits of bacon/ham rind which were inedible. What were they doing in my chicken pie? What if I had religious reasons I couldn’t eat pork? The service was lovely but we...

We're driving far west and decided to drop into J Jaks for our first break stop. Grabbed the Pepper Steak pie and Mushroom Beef pie, also the Lamb Mint Rosemary roll, and Blueberries Custard danish. The pastry across all of them was flakey and soft, but not overly buttery. The pepper steak pie was right up there being the best we've had. Mushroom beef pie was solid and won't disappoint. The lamb roll was the best we've ever had cos the aromatic meaty flavour. The danish was delightful and not overly sweet. The lady who served us was polite and friendly. Not overly pricey too. My dog ran away and ended up at this store once. Does it prove they’re so good even my dog wanted to visit? Maybe not. But every time I tell the story people know where I’m talking about and either tell me how great the place is, or tell me they’ve heard it’s good and they’re meaning to visit. I’m a vegetarian, so I can’t say much about their pies and sausage rolls except that I’ve heard good things. I’ve tried a few of their sweets though and they’re also pretty good. Definitely a...
