Had a truly awful experience at Mapo last night. Was served by the rudest person, a woman from Argentina by the name of Lucia. I went with my family, ordered as usual, and tried to make polite small talk with this woman. I was not only ignored when I spoke directly to her (and I know she is not hard of hearing, she heard me perfectly well when I asked for her name and if the manager was in), but she gave me the smallest scoop of gelato possible because I asked for a particular order for the layering of the gelato. The environment was incredibly hostile and we left as soon as possible. She was glaring at us the whole time. Extremely unpleasant experience. Would ask for Mapo to kindly review who they employ in a front facing role, as this attitude has made us (usually regular customers) not want to go back. edit: while it’s still the best-tasting gelato i’ve had in sydney, i had the most unpleasant experience tonight. asked to sample some flavours and one of your staff dressed in black seemed unwilling and gave us the tiniest drop of ice cream. we couldn’t even taste the ice cream and it was 1/4 the size of what she served other customers. only gave us one spoon even though there was two of us. not sure if she was having a bad day or is she just ruder to people who look like me? also think it’s rather unhygienic to be laughing and gossiping with each other while scooping the ice cream.

I took my team to Mapo after a lovely dinner at Carbon. I tasted many flavours before getting their Hazelnut and Chocolate flavours.
My favourite part about Mapo is the ability to get two flavours in one scoop - you get to try two flavours without eating too much! Best of both worlds 🥰
The flavours are made daily at the store and the texture is slightly different to Gelato I have had elsewhere. It melts quicker and is a bit more fluffy, less thick but the flavours are much more intimate and authentic! I am glad I tried Mapo and would definitely come...
