Newly Updated 29th October 2018. Someone, just asked Google, if the Bohemian Rhapsody movie was on at this United Cinema Collaroy. I'd say no, not yet as it is about to be screened at Hoyts Warringah Mall at Brookvale on Thursday 1st November 2018. That is this week. I went to United Cinema Collaroy to see a movie a few months ago, but right now I can't recall what it was. I went there again on Friday, 5th October 2018 at a 2.30pm session, I saw "Don't Worry He Won't Get Far On Foot", in the ground floor, Grand Theatre, we sat in the more comfy wider seats back, row of front area. All other seats at rear are too narrow for me. I truly enjoyed that movie, based on a true story about John Callahan. He was adopted, and all his life, trying to find his natural mother, the movie story showing him as an adult, an alcoholic, partying, drinking, involved in a car accident, ended up a quadriplegic, he then became a famous, satirical, crazy, quirky, humour cartoonist. I saw this movie as a comedy drama, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, Jack Black and Rooney Mara. Go see it. By The Way: Those Antique Old Theatre Seats in the front Foyer of the Heritage Collaroy United Cinema Theatre, might make it look authentic, but I can't sit in them! How about considering us older big people, and have at least 2 wider comfy seats there that we can actually sit on? Or an additional bench seat? Or at least remove the arm rests between them. But now inside the ground floor cinema, I am able to sit in the Grand Theatre seats comfortably throughout a whole movie. And those wider seats in the back rows of the front area seats are quite comfortable too. I recall a few years ago, I had to sit on the aisle steps to watch a movie because all the old seats upstairs were too narrow for my fat bottom. I don't know what it is like in the upstairs Cinemas now? I wonder if they have a few wider seats upstairs there now? I guess some progress, change and consideration is better...
Read moreI totally understand that this theatre is a heritage building and it has to retain its Historical Front Facade. But inside, it does not have to remain unwelcome and uncomfortable. The main theatre and the wider seats in the middle front area are best for my wider bum. But they need to get rid of those useless old skinny antique theatre seats in the front foyer, as they are unsuitable for wider bottom people to sit in. I could only fit one bottom cheek into one of those narrow seats when I tried to sit down to get my purse out of my handbag. If they want to still keep those narrow useless seats there, then please provide extra wider seats or seats without side arm rests for wide bottom people as well. Other than that, a nice theatre, no other complaints. Except it's a long walk from the nearest available free parking space on a busy day, especially when I have a walking balance disability and can't walk far. Are there any Disabled Parking Spaces close by outside...
Read moreI wanted to support a local cinema instead of Hoyts so booked online ($20 per ticket). Upon arriving I was very sad to see the state that the cinema has gotten to - it’s probably illegal for it to stay open. It was raining when we went and the smell of mould and mildew (cinema 2) was overpowering. I went to the bathroom - there were no signs saying ‘closed’ or anything - but see the attached photos. I had to go to the women’s - but the lights didn’t work and the window was broken (see final photo). We had to request a refund before the movie started because the mould was giving my wife a headache. The woman behind the front desk nodding knowingly when I mentioned the mould and said ‘fair enough’ as she processed the refund. She was very helpful - but it’s so sad that the place has...
