Cabbage Tree Hotel — Local services in Wollongong City Council

Went to the bar, got asked for ID, pretty usual for a bar. The nice girl was lovely but she didn’t believe my ID was real? She had to ask her coworker “is this a fake ID?” her coworker replied with “no it’s not because you can tell” mind you, my ID is my license. A government official ID. One of my friends smiles at one of the staff, she then rolled her eyes and gave my friend a rude look. My mates brother had ID and so did all of us, we then got ID AGAIN. Mind you, all of us have had gotten alcohol drinks from the bar and we got ID AGAIN. We received a platter, with barely any crackers on the platter, my mate asked if we could possibly could get some more as we had more cheese and cabanossi, staff said she will back with if they can do it. Then another staff member came and asked about the situation then stated if we would want more, we’d have to buy a WHOLE another platter. $60 mind you. Food was absolutely delicious, service was rude and ignorant. My mates partner also had got ID when again, he had already been ordering drinks, then “accidentally” thought it was someone else. Last thing was, my mates partner went up to the bar to order, absolutely nobody at the bar. He was standing there for 10 minutes and no service was given, I recommended coming here for the food but not for the service. One staff member was very rude and inconsiderate, coming up to our table when we’re eating to ask about ID’s when they already ID us not once, but TWICE. It’s ridiculous and outrageous. On Saturday night my adult children had taken me to the Lagoon Seafood Restaurant for a birthday dinner celebration .. we were all visitors to Wollongong (from Sydney, Ulladulla & Goulburn) so 10 people in our group. After dinner we decided to have a couple of drinks .. not knowing the area, someone suggested the Cabbage Tree Hotel. We arrived approx 1030 pm .. & were greeted by a security guard who questioned us rather aggressively with “did you people come from across the road?” I said no we didn’t - he then said: “where’d you come from?” After I explained we’d caught an Uber following dinner his attitude changed & he then allowed us entry. But his greeting was far from warm! I should add that our ages ranged from my 27yr old grandson to myself aged 67. Nobody was drunk or disorderly!

We all ordered drinks .. & were very surprised at the rudeness of bar staff & disregard for having customers in their hotel. One person requested a Baileys & milk - no milk was available & no Baileys! (They offered another Irish creme drink) My son asked if the music could be turned up a little & was told a firm “no it’ll upset other people” Besides us 10 there was 3 men in the place & a few people outside smoking. What can I say, This place is amazing!! I organised a surprise 30th for my SIL and what a hidden/not so hidden gem this place it!

Lets start with the rooms, you can hire a variety of rooms for different occasions and attendances. The rooms are very affordable and absolutely stunning. Staff decorate the room included in the hiring price (a bond you get back as long as the room is fine) and they do an incredible job. Sure to wow anyone invited!

The food is fresh and delicious! The wrap platter is so good and fresh! The chefs obviously love their job and it shows in the food. Highly reccomend the aranchini balls too.

The staff are attentive and friendly! They are happy to help in all areas, checking in on the party to make sure everyone is happy and their needs met. They are easy to work with keep you stress free for any event.

You may have a little trouble with quick replies through their facebook, so it is easier to just pop in and chat to them. The only reason is because they are so busy always getting multiple rooms ready for someones special day so you cant blame them for taking a day or two to get back to you!

I will be back, this will be my new go to for events of any kind! I can not speak highly enough of this place! Thanks again...
