Experience is everything when you visit local clubs, restaurants, café or retail store. What we experienced at Fraternity Club was an appalling treatment of guests.
We are local to Wollongong area and have decided to have family dinner (with my wife and two kids) on 21/05 at Fraternity Fair Meadow Club.
It was a busy night at the club as it was raining really hard. We ordered the food from La Trattoria Menu and have purchased some beverages from the bar. In total we spent over $100.
Food started coming out with entrees first, mainly for my wife. I went to the bathroom and when I returned rest of the food arrived for kids and myself.
I sat down and just started eating my meal, when one of the servers walked past me and dropped a sauce over the floor which went all over my right league and my tracksuit pants plus over the bag we had on the floor. Gentlemen that was sitting next to my right saw what happened and has picked up sauce bowl. Few minutes later I stopped one of the servers and explained that sauce was splattered all over my leg. He said he was going to get a napkin for me to clean it up. I waited there for almost 15 minutes where the server didn’t come back to help me clean up the mess sauce left on my tracksuit and on the floor under my table.
I was getting upset so I went and tried to get someone to help me clean up the mess. I noticed three servers standing next to food collection area (including the server who said he was coming back to help me clean it up), and they were standing, chatting and laughing. I walked up to them and addressed the server that was coming back to clean up, I was upset due to inaction to clean up the mess. I asked them if they can come and clean up the mess.
One of the servers (not the one I asked for help) came over and started cleaning up the mess and apologised for the mess. I was visibly upset and have used all available napkins on the table to try and clean up my tracksuit. At that point I was very unhappy and one of my kids didn’t eat their dinner and I had two bites of my own dinner due to the mess. At that point I have asked the Servers, that we wanted a full refund. The servers went to grab Floor Manager (a lady), who came out and basically told us that she can’t give us a full refund and that if we wanted to speak to her manager. I asked to speak to her manager.
Manager Toni came out and I can see he already had an attitude, not to try to defuse the situation. I explained what transpired, and he said that admittedly the server should have acted faster, but ultimately that he wouldn’t issue a refund just because sauce went all over my track suit. Quote:”That can be washed.” Zero empathy towards an upset customer, Toni didn’t even attempt to try to offer an alternative to our request for refund.
Please note we spent in total over $100 for this dinner, for a food that is below average and that kind of treatment. Our youngest son had stomach pain after eating the Schnitzel.
Do not go and waste your money on this club. Corrimal RSL Club or any other club would be a much better alternative. We will not be coming back again. Message to Fraternity Club Management is that you have lost another local, that will not step foot in your...
Read moreAnybody going here for an ‘authentic Italian cuisine’ is kidding themselves (though most of the Australian born Italians I know wouldn’t care in the slightest).
The Fraternity (and bowls and social and everything else to get granted tax-free status) is your typical and I mean this in a nice way, ‘NSW Suburban Club’.
The menu is predictable, prices subsidised by both a local ‘craft brewery’ and of course, the reason anyone would care to pull of two major arterial roads for dinner - gaming.
The Fraternity Club has an excellent Membership Rewards Program (mandatory for people who reside within a designated km area). The benefits? Discounted meals, drinks, your card doubles as a slot machine credit card and complimentary use of the restrooms.
If slots aren’t your thing, then there is a TAB (recently renovated to incorporate a huge screen) and of course Keno every 3 minutes.
For those who don’t gamble, there is plenty in offer including a fully equipped and rather attractive looking kids play gym, a strangely positioned fountain and an Uber meeting place.
The Fraternity Club provides members with the latest Aristocrat and IGN slots including Lightning Link and cabinets that dwarf even the most egotistic of gamblers.
The staff are terrific, what could be better (I really mean this) than last years ‘High School Non-Uni Attending Graduates’ being given an opportunity to showcase skills in Customer Service, Bartending, Gaming Machine Troubleshooting.... the list goes on.
In summary:
The Fraternity Club at Fairy Meadow is exactly what a NSW suburban RSL/Sports/Workers/Builders... Club should be. It is a mini casino that would make James Packer stop for a Schnitzal Sandwich and Lemon Lime & Bitters... and if anyone dare complain... the feedback box is on your right as you...

My family and I of 8 had a lovely time at the NYE Party in the Ballroom upstairs! From the drinks, food and even the servers! Everyone was lovely, polite and friendly. The Band However were lack luster, had no energy and were all around, with lack of a better word, awful!
The food being taken around the room at the beginning was delicious and fresh, the Servers Jem and Jacob were kind, curtious and well informed on the food choices.
The Cocktails were beautiful! Can never go wrong with an Aperol spritz! The Servers Manu and Jem were amazing with bringing those around even though my husband wanted a beer they got it for him straight away!
A special mention to Brooke, towards the end of the night, she had made her way around to the tables and sat with them and had a chat about the night and asked if they were having a good time, introduced herself and listened to people speak.
When she got to our table she did the same thing, crouched down beside us, asked how our night was, if we had recieved food/drinks/service ect and while I had a few issues through out the night Brooke had fixed them all straight away, she was such a lovely girl! You should never let go of someone who takes time to approach every table and ask if they have had a good time!!
Again, this was a beautiful night (besides the band) We will be Back!
Special Thankyou again to Brooke The Supervisor, Jem, Manu,...
