Collective - A Craft Beer Shop — Local services in Calgary

I understand you’re located near Avenida Market and you get lots of visitors asking for free samples (and abusing), but tonight you definitely reminded me of the (bad) attitude in Vancouver.

We’ve been all around and moved a lot and it’s probably the first time we’ve encountered rude service and tasting limit in a tap room when the whole idea is to discover beers you like.

This ain’t Les Échezeaux in Burgundy, it’s supposed to be a place where you discover different beers and buy them by the growler afterwards. This is why I will actually support the microbreweries themselves and not a reseller.

It's the best beer store in town - there's no question. When you go to other small shops, you'll likely be the only customer around. When you're at Collective, there is almost always some extra traffic and there are several reasons why.

The store has some non-beer options including a healthy selection of decent wine. Lots of rotating taps, super well organized and accessible, great selection of singles, loyalty/points system, discount for 6 cans under $6, and it's all very intentional. The owners and staff are the best around - this is THE spot I can go to with confidence that I can say "I'm looking for something [for cooking in a recipe/a gift/pairing/strange/exciting/etc.] and will get an honest and good recommendation. It is rare that I find a place that truly makes me feel like I am at home, and Andrew and Stacy always welcome me back as if a son coming home from a long journey.

Besides their remarkable service, Collective has an enormous selection of craft beer that constantly surprises me each time I enter, especially on their rotating taps. If you are ever having trouble deciding, they are always willing to listen and direct you in the right area with their wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Every dollar spent here is worth it. I will continue to come back and get growlers refilled, cans to go, and a good conversation with a friend. Thank you for always opening me up to new and different flavors...
