I worked for 2 yrs in a butcher shop in the Edmonton area that had the absolute best standards, so I know quality meat. JAN'S IS TOP QUALITY. I have visited several Calgary shops, and THIS SHOP is the best one I have found. The food is all fresh, and prices are great. (The beef tenderloin I would have paid $20 in my Edmonton shop cost me $12 here) I'm not sure how to put this correctly, but I'll try. A few of the times I shopped here it was quite busy. They are of Polish descent and so are many of their loyal customers, so they speak in their first language to each other. This does NOT bother me, because they speak to me in English.... but I know that there are people who may get offended, or feel hesitant to shop because they feel out of place. My advice is that if you want excellent quality and value then let that go! The food is worth it, and we all deserve the best. This is where you...
Read moreI have been a client of Janâs Meat and Deli since it opened in 1987 at their original location on 17th Avenue SW. This is a boutique specialty store for those who fancy high quality food. Their meat is always fresh and Jan will cut and tenderize what you need right in front of your eyes. They make unique products and carry items from all over Europe.
Their Covod-19 protocols are extraordinary. Plexiglass, masks, gloves and sanitizer everywhere. Gone are the days of lengthy lineups inside the store as they now limit then number of people who can enter the store at any given time.
As far as pricing, I find them to be most fair and competitive. You may be able to find some items for less at the big box stores if there is a sale and you want to make the effort but most of the time that makes no sense to me. Compare...

They make their sausages and bacon in-house and the quality is absolutely amazing. The side bacon is one of the best bacons I've ever tasted and their Polish garlic sausages are excellent. They also have Kabanosy, a bit dry for my liking, but are great as a snack. They have a Caraway ham that goes great in any sandwich, or even alone as a charcuterie item. They also have European style breads from local bakeries that you can buy - these pair well with their bacon and sausages. I will mention though that parking can be a bit of a pain since the road they are on is a bit tight and the lot in front of the store is...
