I went to boucherie des faubourgs on Sunday Feb 6th around 2:30 PM to buy some Jambon de Paris. One of my French friend who used to work there told me I could find some good French ham there. I came in around 2:30 PM, went directly to the lady at the register and told her what I was looking for, she directed me to her male colleague with whom I placed my order. It was my first time in the shop, so while waiting for the Jambon to be sliced I took few steps around to see if there was anything else I would like to buy. I then came right back to the counter to wait for my order - let’s note that the store is pretty much an open space. At that point I was the only customer in the shop and noticed the owner of the establishment walking towards the entrance but I didn’t really pay attention. The employee finished slicing, I paid for my order and walked toward the door, to my great surprise the door was locked. I pushed few times but nothing. Mind you it was 2:30 PM and the store doesn’t close before 6PM. I told the lady at the register that I couldn’t open the door, she was visibly confused, she also tried and realized that the door has been locked from inside. We both realized that the owner has locked the door while I was waiting for my order. Now, I would like to extend him the benefit of the doubt that maybe the door is defective but he came in with the key to open the door for me. Also, I have been in this « black man body » long enough to know what was going on: maybe to this owner, a black man in a butcher shop was suspicious enough for him to lock me in. Don’t black people eat meat or ham? Maybe to him, because I am Black I am probably a thief, there to steal so he had to locked me in, locked the door at 2:30PM while I was waiting for my order even if that meant keeping other customers from getting inside his shop. I didn’t say anything to him but I am writing this for him to know that I know what was going on. He is not the first and will not be the last to treat me as a thief just because my skin is brown, I am above that but I would urge him to do better. Being black doesn’t make us instantly suspicious or raging thieves. Maybe if someone is too worry of blacks shopping in their establishment they can always put a « white only » sign on the door and avoid us the bane of their ignorance. We have to Do better to make this world a better place for the generations coming after us! The jambon was good...
Read moreBought sausages, I was assured they were fresh, but when I cooked them they stayed raw inside because they were actually frozen. I went back to the store, shared my concerns and picked up another package of them, the same thing happened. When I went back to the store for the third time, the butcher tried to convince me that I'm supposed to eat them this way. He really treated me like I'm stupid... And refused to give me my money back. He literally told me that ground beef is supposed to be pink in the center. I'm way too scared of food poisoning to buy from them again. It is in fact possible that I was told this, because I was. It was the butcher himself. Do not imply...

Been a client since they moved to that location about 5 or 6 years ago. Convenient location if you have a dog, close to a boulangerie, a fromagerie and a large general...
