I’d be lying if I told you my yearly pilgrimage to Montréal was not motivated merely by this restaurant.
If you need to know my taste in poutine before continuing: smokes poutine is quite foul NY fries poutine is not that good at all Pizza Pizza poutine had decent gravy Poutinery House of Poutine is pretty decent Nom Nom is the best poutinery in Toronto Popeyes poutine is questionable at best Great Canadian House of Poutine is pretty good value, but the taste is only above average did not enjoy la banquise la belle province is pretty good
The crushed potatoes is so, so good. Crunchy on the outside but still has the delicious potato interior - not too much, like potato wedges, but just enough to give you two different mouth feels in a bite. The gravy is delicious, with hints of an ingredient I’m not too sure (a little earthy, so maybe fungal of some kind?), though I think would benefit from being slightly thickened. There’s no lumps in the gravy tho, which is great. The cheese curds are squishy and great tasting - it’s hard to find fault with their poutine. Generous portions and decently priced, too.
There’s also options to customize your poutine. I personally go for crushed potatoes, extra gravy, extra cheese churds, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and ground beef. There are so many ingredients to choose from, including types of gravy, so you can definitely get it just the way you want it.
This is, IMO, the place to get a poutine. It’s...
Read moreI usually leave good reviews, but my visit to Poutineville was just terrible.
I hope management addresses the fly problem and reevaluates their pricing—otherwise it’s hard to recommend.
Response to below comment: My friend I don’t mean to attack you. The reason I posted was the problem with the flies. You can put high speed curtains or fans at entrance to stop them or have Insect Traps & Repellents and do regular sprays on the logo outside. You probably know more than me how to address this issue. What happens outside the restaurant has a direct effect inside the restaurant. On the positive note, service and staff were very...
Read moreWe recently embarked on a one-night trip to Montreal, with three highly anticipated activities on my list: a ride on one of Via Rail’s new trains, a meal at Poutineville, and experiencing the Total Solar Eclipse from the Montreal Science Centre. Upon our arrival in Montréal that Sunday afternoon, the temperature was a comfortable 11°C, perfect for a leisurely spring walk.
Poutineville, though relatively small and located at 1365 Ontario St E, is evidently popular. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. After introducing myself to Harri, she persuaded us to dine in rather than take out, a decision I’m glad we made.
The menu was enticing on its own. Our server, Charlie, was incredibly kind. Following his recommendation, I ordered the Montrealer, excluding the mushrooms and fried breaded pickles.
I was far from disappointed.
As Charlie served my order, the melted Swiss cheese sizzled tantalizingly on the plate. It was delicious. Despite ordering the regular size, I couldn’t finish it. Determined not to waste any of it, I asked for a takeout bag, brought the leftovers back to our hotel, and enjoyed the rest there.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone at Poutineville for a satisfying experience. I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning the next time I’m...
