Let me just say i normally love farmboy. Never had a negative side of it. To start the behind glass at the bakery had like hardly anything in it, things were sloppy, just odd for the time of day. So im standing and waiting at the bakery counter to be assisted and both workers make eye contact and ignore me. Someone higher up came out and told the one guy to go to the phone ,so he went and did that. The girl finally said just wait til he's done. He finishes and as he's walking past everything behind the counter and the other girl his mask is down. She then tells me to wait. So i start walking around. I come back and still she tried to help but she seemed like she was just so lost ( as i later found out every single person behind that counter was new ) so she stopped helping...again and told me to wait. So i walked away again to browse other stuff but i wanted something behind the bakery. Eventually there was 3 new workers all trying to ring in my order. No one could figure out the flavors to tell me, they couldn't figure out price so again i had to wait for someone to come assit. All i got was sorry for the wait. What on earth? I was so annoyed i had no patience, grabbed my stuff and left. Whoever was in charge put 3 people who clearly were struggling in one spot and expected things to...
Read moreFancy and pricy, but if yer a foodie, the financial sacrifice is usually worth it. This is a well-lit and organized store that doesn't rack up needless steps through aisle upon towering aisle of toilet paper, plastic bags, vitamins, soft drinks and 16-piece dinner sets when all ya want is some organic Greek olive oil, gluten-free sourdough bread and a 500 ml container of honey glazed carrots (for an eye-watering 6 bucks...go fresh to save). Staff are friendly and helpful, the produce section is top notch, and the meat & seafood departments have a wide variety, including organic and grass-fed. If it's quick convenience you're after, go straight to the salad bar, where nearby you will also find a variety of pre-packaged sandwiches, spreads and salads, sushi, and a hot meal bar. They also have a bakery and carry gluten-free breads and goodies. One gets the sense that items found therein have been carefully curated for the discerning foodanista. Still, despite the snob factor (although Remarck takes the cake on that front), this is my favourite...
Read moreWhen you visit a grocery store within regular business hours you expect to get service at any department. That's not the case at Farm Boy (Wellington Rd., London and who knows where else in the city). It seems that employees take breaks, but are not replaced by another employee at their work station, so if you're unlucky enough to visit the cheese department and the employee has just left, you're stuck until he/she comes back or you can choose to leave without what you came for. It's useless to call for help, as other employees refuse to touch the slicer, even if they work at the deli/meat section, operating identical machines. It seems Farm Boy doesn't care for the time customers spend waiting on their employees or if the customer leaves without buying what he/she came for. It's sad and disheartening and the message that gets stuck in your head is that they don't need you. For a grocery store that wants to be up there with the best in the business there's a lot of room for improvement. Not buying there again! My time is...
