Walking into Chop, I was immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of sophistication and warmth. The dim lighting and plush leather seating set the stage for an indulgent dining experience. The aroma of sizzling steaks on the grill mingled with the tantalizing scent of aged wood, creating an ambiance that was both elegant and inviting.
From the moment I arrived, the service at Chop was impeccable. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, guiding me through the menu with expert recommendations and genuine enthusiasm.
You go here for steak and so of course I got the steak, and it was great. My ribeye was a masterpiece of flavor and tenderness. The quality of the meat was exceptional, with each bite bursting with juiciness and rich, beefy goodness. Accompanied by a selection of delectable sides and sauces, every aspect of the meal was thoughtfully executed and exquisitely presented. The one thing that I was a bit disappointed about was the doneness of my ribeye. I asked our server on how I should get it done and was recommended medium to which I agreed. When it came out, it was definitely medium rare. Still a good steak, but wasn’t cooked the way I wanted. Around the table, we had ordered 5 steaks, all either medium & medium rare and there is a clear difference between the medium and medium rare steaks (which is great, because this way you know they actually take the time to cook the steaks to exact temperatures). If I had to guess, maybe she didn’t hear me correctly, but really wished I was able to see how it would’ve tasted the way our server recommended. Unfortunately our server didn’t come to check in on us for a bit, partly due to it being busy, so I wasn’t able to tell her until I was done my steak. Any other day, I would’ve asked for it to be redone, but it was still good nonetheless - just wished it had been done the way I wanted.
In conclusion, dining at Chop was a good choice. Great staff, and good food. Just check for the steak to be done as soon as you get it to make sure it was cooked the way you want. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a top-notch steak dinner, Chop is sure to impress even the most discerning of palates. Highly...
Read moreThis was my second time at this steakhouse, and I went with a group of 5 for a special occasion. The ambience is standard steakhouse casual, and they have a very nice bar area. They have a reasonable wine menu, and standard cocktails and drinks. Of note, they make Manhattans here using bourbon, which I would not recommend - i’ve had it before, and it really is not a good adaptation to this classic drink. You can ask them to use the standard recipe, which I would recommend. I had a Cosmopolitan that was mixed well but the orange peel garnish was just a square, roughly cut piece at the bottom of the glass - poor presentation but tasted good. Our table also had the sexy beast wine, which was quite good and decanted nicely.
The service was pretty good, and our food came out on time, hot, and all the orders were correct. I had the French onion soup [very good], peppercorn New York steak [great] and crème brûlée for dessert [average]. They gave us a free dessert for the birthday person as well as a free entree coupon for next time, which was a nice touch. Other people at the table had prime rib, sirloin Oscar, and seafood linguine, all which were very good. Expect a high price point here. Most steaks average between 40 and $60, which comes with a standard choice of side. Appetizers are eight to $16. Drinks are $12 and up. it’s a nice place for a special occasion, or possibly a business dinner with a few clients, but would likely be more difficult for a larger group. The tables are a bit too close together, so not a lot of privacy. They do have an Area in the back that can support a table of approximately 15 people. There are some gluten-free items available, but these are “gluten conscious“ and there is always risk of cross-contamination as most people know. One of the members of our group has celiac disease, and chose not to risk it. In any case, you can get a great steak here at a moderately-high price point for London Ontario, but average price point for Toronto [and bargain compared to Las Vegas or New York prices] - just don’t expect a New York quality cocktail. We will most...
