I recently started shopping here. I'm a new mom, bought my newborn here in between her nap just to pick up some food to feed my family. However, I was greeted by a very rude cashier in her mid 50's, short brown hair, with an accent. Now I've heard there has been unfair treatment towards the Chinese community, but never have I experienced it until this day. I am Canadian born and speak perfect English, however, this cashier thought she was above me and was going to tell me how I should conduct myself in public because of my ethnicity. She told me that she was watching me and I had touched my face, she said that all over the news they are telling people not to touch their face and I should go home and practice not touching my face. I said I wasn't sick, she goes "it doesn't matter, go home and practice not touching your face in public". I don't care if people have their opinions towards Chinese at this time, but I don't think a cashier has the right or any employee at an establishment for that matter, has the right to discriminate, degrade or humiliate a PAYING customer who is just trying to feed their family. I wrote a letter to complain about how this establishment should educate their employees on customer service and maybe even the virus itself. I received a call from the store manager with the most insincere, robotic apology ever. He said he would talk to the employee. At the end of the day I will not shop at an establishment that employs people who discriminate against others and encourage others not to shop here either. No frills is just next door after all....and it's the same thing...
Read moreThe store itself was fine, but my cashier gave poor customer service. I don't know if the cashiers are forced to increase their scanning speed, but she had the previous person pay while starting to scan my items. The previous person used the wrong card, so she had to rescan my items. Then when it was officially my turn, she started scanning the next person's items onto my bill. She didn't ask me if I wanted a bag, which I did, and she didn't tell me the total or ask what payment I was using before she pushed the debit/credit button and started scanning the next person's items again. I actually had cash, so she had to revert back to my transaction and I told her I wanted a bag. Once she gave me my change and receipt, she didn't give me a bag and restarted the next customer's order. There was a bag on the opposite belt from the previous customer so I was forced to go around and grab it. And while I was bagging, she started scanning the second person after me while the first one paid, and the first one then asked for a bag as well. After a long pause, the cashier finally gave her a bag.
I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. There are many factors that might lead to a poor mood on the job, but this was wilful ignorance of the customers and poor communication. I hope I don't need to shop there again as it is not my...
Read moreI went shopping this afternoon at the Food Basics in Oak Ridges on Yonge street with my mother and we were in line checking out. Due to COVID-19 my mother had asked the cashier to clean before scanning her items. The cashier looked towards us and said in a very rude tone "that's not my job, and we have a lady come in sometimes to clean". So the cashiers don't clean their register after each customer? that's disgusting in my opinion. The cashier was a young girl probably in high school. She should be fired for the type of attitude she displayed today. She was also fighting with me and my mother. She then went on to say for me to check myself and the way I talk. Yet she is the one fighting with a customer. Very unprofessional and unacceptable. 2 managers I think came running out and didn't even help the situation. They don't know how to run a grocery store at all. The grocery store itself is very understaffed and majority of the cashiers just stand at customer service either on their phones or talking while their are 3 huge lineups and only 3 cashiers working. I will not be coming back here and I suggest you shop at Farm Boy. It's a grocery store, and it's extremely clean and they clean after every customer. You don't even have to ask. Management and staff are outstandingly professional. Something Food Basic in Oak...
