Babaton — Local services in Toronto

If you’ve ever walked into a store and immediately felt like you were being judged just for existing, you’ve probably been to Aritzia.

I think everyone knows that Aritzia generally has a reputation for aloof staff, but the manager at this particular Babaton location (Asian woman in her 30's, thin hair with blonde balayage) takes it to another level. She always gives off an over-the-top "mean girl" vibe that’s not just unwelcoming; it is genuinely cringe.

I think there's a big difference between being polished and being cold and unfortunately, she leans very hard into the latter. The dismissive tone, dead stares, and zero effort to make customers feel acknowledged. I never understood why some Aritzia employees like her act like they're doing you a favor by helping you. If you clearly don’t enjoy interacting with people, retail management may not be the right career path? This location seriously needs a manager check and an attitude change ASAP. Had the best shopping experience I have ever had. I went in (very) last minute to find a few outfits for a new job after working from home for almost 5 years. Lexi, Angela and another girl (sorry, I didnt get her name) were super sweet and put a few outfits together for me in a change room. Being overwhelmed as I was, they went the extra mile checking in every few minutes for every article of clothing I tried on and gave me their honest feedback and suggestions. I had spent almost 4 hours at the mall without any luck, until my husband pointed out this store. The girls were literally a God-send and I wanted to share my experience with management as this should be the gold standard in terms of customer service. Im on my way to work now and had to leave this review as I so happy with my outfit and wanted to acknowledge the level of care from the staff here....

Went to return a coat that was purchased as a Christmas gift . at that time , the store didn’t have the right size so they offered to ship it to my house with a 10% discount. Also at that time i was told that i have till January as it was a Christmas gift. When i went to return it on Jan 7th, i was told that as i didn’t have a gift receipt ( which was never offered ) i couldn’t return it. After much back and forth , the manger reluctantly processed the return . However, the manager made us feel I had done something wrong. To top it all off, my friend who was trying on coats received no help. No-one from the staff came to help even though the store was virtually empty, making us feel unwanted. of course we walked away even though we were interested in their slouch coat. Very bad experience., will not be returning...
