This is one of the better Food Basics in the city in my opinion. It has a very big produce section as soon as you walk in and is very well-stocked, it may not have specialty types of fruits and vegetables here such as blood oranges but it has a lot to offer. It has a big meat section as well from everything from beef (steak, roast, ground, stewing beef and strip) to veal to Pork to chicken, turkey, fish and vegetarian options. There's also a couple of side coolers that have Frozen options as well. They also carry a wide variety of cheeses both in block form slices and shredded as well. Everything from processed cheese to actual real Parmigiano-Reggiano grana Padano, cheddar cheese, cheese curds and everything in between including blue cheese.
Aisles are nice and wide so two people can fit can be shopping at a time going both sides and are usually very well-stocked and if there's an item you're looking for if there's always plenty of employees working who will try to look to see if the item you're looking for is in their back room and if it is they will bring it out for you. This is also one of the Food Basics that has a full beer cooler offering many varieties and also sell wines as well. They also have an aisle for vegan and vegetarian options and plant-based auctions as well. The Frozen aisle also is very well stocked with frozen vegetables different options from around the world and quite a few different kinds of ice cream gelato frozen yogurt and even some dairy-free ice cream such as coconut and other options. Generally the store is not very busy and dirt isn't usually a wait to get inside. Only downside I find here is there's not enough registers open there's maybe three at maximum with one or two open at a time leaving many times to use the self-checkout which there's five stations and sometimes when you go out front there's aggressive...
Read moreBeen going here since I moved into the neighbourhood, but my most recent experience is giving me pause on recommending this place ever.
I've been buying booze here for the odd party since they started selling it, and not once has anyone ever given me any issues about wearing a KN95 mask while buying alcohol (nor has anyone in any other 19+ establishment I frequent given me grief about it), but one lady at the self-checkout a few days ago treated me INCREDIBLY suspiciously for questioning if there were any disability policy exemptions as I'd never been forced to take my mask off to verify my ID at this location before (I very clearly look like the same near-30s person on my ID), told her if there weren't I /would/ take off my mask but I have a very weak immune system and would really prefer not to, she ended up getting angry at me and bringing a supervisor and another employee into this situation, essentially making the entire situation an entire scene when it didn't have to be if someone just gave me a straight answer when I first asked. I conceded and took off my mask and she seemed almost surprised that I was actually the person on my ID? Like I would go through the effort of getting a fake to use at a grocery chain as someone who's been able to legally drink for 9 years?
On top of the other issues brought up in different reviews and regularly moldy (but still expensive somehow) produce that others have commented on, this feels like the nail in the coffin for me with FB and I'd absolutely rather just go to the nearby Freshco for most of my shopping and buy my alcohol from Wine...
Read moreI always go to this location and I did not have any negative experience in the past, but on December 8, 2024 I experienced some dishonesty while purchasing some pomegranate which were on sales in their December 5-11, 2024 flyer for the city of Toronto. The cashier would not sell us the pomegranate based on the store flyer, but a different price which they posted in front of the product. She made some excuses which did not make any sense to me, saying that you should search for the postal code where this store is located. Well I live in Parkdale, so the Landsdown and Dupont's Food basic is the one showing for my postal code and it is not that I showed her a different city's flyer. The weird part of this interaction was that there were two products, blueberries and pomegranate on sales in the same page of the flyer for that specific date, but the blueberry price had no issue if you were to purchase it, on the other hand the price for pomegranate were changed in the store and did not match the flyer. Anyway I went to Fresh Co on Dupont and they price matched the pomegranate for me. I shouldn't have written this long message, because of only $1 dollar difference in the price of a product and I did not mean it for that purpose. I did it to share my thought on dishonesty and it doesn't matter the scale of it. We all make mistakes, but we fix it. We do not defend it or...
