Hmmm, I had a strange feeling being there the whole time.
It started when the auctioneer said that there was an issue with their advertising and their flyers didn't go out as it was suppose to. "Oh how lucky we are to be bidding against such a small crowd." They make you think that you hit the lottery and that you're going to get the great deal.
Apparently they do this everytime to manipulate their buyers.
A lot of the items were very outdated, or obsolete electronics. The auctioneer lied about several items and the descriptions. "Real crystal" however it was crystal line. (Purchased item)
We received a flyer in the mail advertising new tvs and furniture. When we arrived we felt mislead as several of the items were not there that we came for.
There is an auction fee of 12% added to the base sale, then 13% hst. If you get a bigger item be prepared to spend $150 per set for shipping.
When checking out, the man in front of us bought bedding and a couch and had to pay shipping of $300 with no negotiation(2 sets)going to the same household.
I bought several smaller items, and was disappointed in a few as per their poor quality. Overall you can get a good deal but buyer beware. If its too good to be true then it probably is!
PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THEIR PERSIAN RUGS. (High pressure sales technique used)
If someone started with a low bid, the auctioneer would make snarky remarks and insult them on the spot. (Greasy salesman vibe) he does realestate so he claims.
I would recommend staying away of this place...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible auctioneers. These people practically bully buyers in the audience by telling them their budgets and offers aren't big enough. In Waterloo at auction they actually shamed members of the audience for their bids and dragged the bidding on and on until somebody either bid higher or until they had to accept the current bid. The entire experience was extremely uncomfortable and it just felt like having a bunch of men yell at people from the front of a room about how much money they are losing. They stated to the audience that they should bring more money to an auction, should open their wallets, and even made lewd jokes about mattresses, beds, and couches to sell items when children were obviously present. I have been attending auctions all my life and I have never seen such behaviour. If a buyer only wants to bid $20 and there are no higher offers, then that is the nature and risk of auctioneering. You can't dictate to people that a bid is ridiculous or should be higher, and you can't bully people into spending their money. You can't tell people they are too poor to afford your auction, or that in Toronto something sold for a higher price. Know your audience - people generally spend more money in Toronto, but that doesn't make people from other cities poor plebians. If you wanted to demand certain prices for your items, then you should have...
Read moreThese auctions can best be described as performance art, not honest business. They hearken back to the days of Snake Oil salesmen, only now they are peddling counterfeit furniture and obsolete electronics. In this case, they tell you what great deals you'll be getting that day because, the advertising got screwed up, they have too much inventory, it's so hot out, the moon is full, yada, yada. Then they tell you that items are genuine leather or genuine Ashley or Broyhill or they are expensive antiques or they're on consignment from a customer, etc., etc. They also tell you how they aren't making any money on this auction and how you are stealing from them, ya right.
Once you get them home you find out that they are Made in China out of whatever. My genuine, raw hide, Italian leather sofa set is anything but. I won't say there's an issue with off-gassing, but I didn't even know I had termites until I saw them marching across the lawn with their suitcases in their hands a day after we moved the couches in.
Unfortunately though, like me, you've probably only googled this after you made a purchase and now you're simply commiserating with others who made the same mistake. If you are one of the very few smart ones who did their homework first, good on you! Now stay the heck away.
I gave them 2 stars 'cause at least it's good...
